About the Opportunity:
This is an outstanding opportunity for a passionate computational scientist, Virtual reality designer or graphic designer with expertise in virtual or mixed reality development to play an influential role in product development at AstraZeneca in Cambridge, UK.
The Computational Structural Biology (CSB) team is growing, our broad-ranging expertise encompasses structural bioinformatics, virtual reality, protein modelling and design, molecular dynamics simulations, free-energy calculations, protein docking, and in silico prediction of physico-chemical properties of biomolecules using advanced computational methods. The team sits as part of the wider Mechanistic and Structural Biology dept. which poses leading capabilities in Crystallography, Cryo-Electron Microscopy, Biophysics, Biochemistry and Cell Biology.
This role will see you collaborating with computational scientist, software developers, protein scientists, biophysicists, chemists, biologists and computational scientists in AZ. You will work proactively developing virtual reality projects within an interdisciplinary, collaborative, dynamic environment.
Part of a team that applies and develops computational methods and platforms to analyse and interpret macromolecules, including protein and nucleic acids structures and interactions, you will contribute to evolve the CSB team to develop virtual reality capabilities. This is an outstanding opportunity to develop and work with transformative, pioneering technology and apply it to bio-therapeutic discovery and development projects in a dynamic and interdisciplinary environment.
Role duties
Development and deployment of new Augmented Reality/ AR workflows. R&D of new Augmented Reality technologies.
Train and educate within the company around the use of Augmented Reality/ AR creative elements to heighten traditional projects
Attends regular meetings with cross functional teams and collaborates with scientists, ML (Machine Learning) engineers, protein designers, and other team members to understand platform requirements and implement engaging VR/ Virtual Reality interactions
Participate in code reviews, provide constructive feedback
Collaborate with the team to design and develop VR/ Virtual Reality and AR/ Augmented Reality experiences using Unity.
Work with our art team to integrate 3D assets into our content.
Qualification, Skills & Experience
Required:
Currently undertaking an undergraduate or integrated master’s degree with the opportunity to spend 1 year in industry starting in September 2024
Excellent interpersonal skills, including relationship building and collaboration within a diverse, cross-functional team
Self-Starter who can demonstrate learning and be open to learning
Familiarity with AI, physics, animation, and code in general
Strong planning and organisation skills
Ability to see opportunities, learn, and apply that learning to drive innovation
Desirable:
Experience in AR/Augmented Reality or related XR/ Extended Reality production environments
Experience leading creative projects in XR/ Extended Reality related environments
Experience with VR/ Virtual Reality development using Unity, and familiarity with VR development platforms
Creation of standalone AR/ Augmented Reality content via the use of Unity/Unreal for integration with traditional workflows.
