The Project, Portfolio & Alliances (PPA) group within Precision Medicine & Biosamples (PMB), is accountable for providing project, portfolio and alliance management to the AZ Precision Medicine portfolio; to ensure successful delivery of diagnostic projects, for CRO partner management for Human Biological Samples used in clinical trials, as well as programme management for key strategic capability build initiatives that bring innovative new directions to our portfolio. Furthermore, this group is responsible for coordinating the development of robust functional investment cases, and for the operational management of PMB in line with the AZ business cycle.
The Head of PMB Portfolio Management is a critical leadership role with accountability for defining and crafting the precision medicine, HBS and diagnostic data management strategy for the Oncology and BioPharma precision medicine portfolio. You will bring increased clarity to the precision medicine project portfolio for information sharing and decision making, and will collaborate across the AZ enterprise to integrate data sets from multiple sources to define, build and maintain a suite of management reports; crucial to showcase AZ’s precision medicine leadership, to identify productivity gains and trends over the lifetime of diagnostic development, to provide senior leaders with long term forecasts for regulatory diagnostic approvals, and to demonstrate the value of the precision medicine portfolio to the business. Furthermore, you will develop long term strategies to influence the inclusion of precision medicine and HBS related portfolio information into AZ enterprise systems such as PLANIT, Control Tower, Merlin.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
Provide strategic direction, scope and craft the requirements to optimise the Precision Medicine and Human Biological Samples (HBS) portfolio reporting for the Oncology and BioPharma portfolio
Transform PMBs approach to managing portfolio information to provide relevant business insights and metrics for the AZ enterprise including how to lead the impact of portfolio changes
Develop strategies that lead to the integration of HBS, precision medicine and diagnostic information/ data into enterprise planning and portfolio reporting tools (PLANIT/ AZ Control Tower/ Merlin)
Implement and maintain overarching responsibility for a robust governance and info/ data management framework and optimised use of technology platforms to maintain accurate HBS and diagnostic/ precision medicine portfolio information
Develop and maintain overarching responsibility for a suite of management reports that provide critical information to showcase precision medicine leadership, provide long term forecasts, identify efficiency gains and trends over the lifetime of diagnostic development, and to demonstrate AZs value to the business
Engage with R&D senior leaders and key business partners to ensure that Precision Medicine and Biosamples portfolio reporting requirements are fully understood, and that information is provided to the business in a simple but impactful format
Maintain a high degree of understanding and awareness on new strategic and portfolio management trends and developments
Lead a team of highly motivated Precision Medicine and Biosamples portfolio management experts by:
Develop and communicate inspiring vision and purpose and create a culture of innovation, openness, shared learning, inclusion and diversity
Performance manage senior managers aligned to AZ’s rewarding performance process
Build Portfolio Management capabilities and expertise through coaching, training and continuous learning
Identify development opportunities and effectively plan for succession across all key roles
Contribute to a culture of shared learning, innovation and inclusion across PMB and PPA teams
Essential Experience
Extensive experience of Business Intelligence reporting design and implementation
Proven ability to drive positive change and continuous improvement
Track record of translating complex business needs and presenting in simple and engaging way
Proven experience of navigating requirements/ influencing senior stakeholders within a pharmaceutical or clinical environment
Previous experience of managing delivery through global and matrix teams
