As a member of the External R&D Leadership team, this role is part of a concerted cross-functional global effort to enhance and optimize the company’s relationship between External Science and Strategy.
The Senior Director, External Science Engagement Strategy Lead will report to the VP External R&D and primarily will support the External R&D strategy in defining and leading the global External Science Engagement strategy.Specific responsibilities includeestablishing process to generate strategic insights aligned to TA Strategy and synchronize “One Voice” external approach at enterprise level (across ORD, GMA, OBU) in sync with ORD Strategy.
The person in this rolewill utilize their experience, leadership and extensive expertise in oncology to promote an effective cross-functional work between the main internal stakeholders in the Hematology/Oncology R&D (Early Oncology, Late Oncology, Tumor Councils, SBDA)and Global Medical Affairs organization, to optimally engage with external experts in order to drive and deliver on AZ Oncology strategy.
What you will do:
Drive fit-for-purpose External Engagements utilizing multiple delivery models such as External Science Panel, Scientific Symposium, External Seminar Speaker series and lead output summaries with actions and recommendations from each engagement and integrate to strategy.
Lead external engagement strategy, portfolio of engagements with KEEs including scientific exchanges for key alliances and collaborate with key senior stakeholder.
Working with key Oncology leadership, lead identificationstrategic need for external engagement and apply the best delivery model to achieve the desired outcomes aligned with the Oncology Leadership strategy.
Develop enterprise-wide database for KEEs participating in AZ external panels and drive contracting efficiencies for the core KEEs.
Keep up-to-date knowledge on key opportunities for AZ ORD strategy and determine if external input is necessary.
Lead the scientific impact assessment report for all external engagements.
Lead internal R&D opportunity analysis and gather strategic and scientific questions to be addressed with external partners.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of AZ pipeline, strategy and vision
Manage external relationships andparticipate in governance meetings with strategic partners.
Collaborate with other functional areas within the early and late-stage oncology organization.
Contribute to budget management.
Close collaboration across External R&D LT for strategic alignment
Prepare and deliver external presentations
Maintain compliance with all company compliance and regulatory guidelines governing external interactions.
Basic Qualifications:
PhD and/or MDwith minimum of 3 years’ experience working in pharmaceutical industry OR providing consulting services.
Ability to assess issues/risks and effectively implement remediation measurements
Ability to understand contractual agreement structure, terms and obligations and be able to translate the terms in a way understood by senior management
Demonstrated strong project management, great organizational skillsand cross-function team management skills
Ability to manage and/or resolve issues, risks, and conflicts both internally and externally in a timely manner through great listening skills and the capability to ask the right questions.
Critical strategic thinker ; ability to initiate, develop and implement new strategies and processes
Able to partner well with all functional management.
Strong interpersonal skills. Capacity to work cross-functionally and to influence people without direct authority.
Comfortable working with senior management
Experience working in a matrix organization and demonstrated ability to influence
Preferred Qualifications:
- MBA
- Knowledge of Oncology drug development,strategy and process
