The role
As part of the Integrated Bioanalysis (iBA) Global Team, you will report directly to the head of integrated Bioanalysis, responsible for leading all aspects of bioanalysis supporting discovery efforts. You will use your comprehensive understanding of bioanalysis in early drug discovery across multiple modalities and theraputic areas. Responsible will include but limited to driving discovery bioanalytical strategy while focussing on scientiifc and technical innovation to drive portfolio value. You will mange and develop high caliber sceintific staff across multiple sites focussed developing early bioanalytical strategy to deliver complex technical solutions. The successful candidate will be a recognized thought leader in the field of discovery bioanalysis supporting early portfolio needs. An enterprise leader, you will be capable of managing a complex portfolio requiring state of the art scientific and technical solutions. The ideal candidate will collaborate across a range of stakeholders and act as senior scientific leaders. You will be responsible for ensuring delivery across all aspects of discovery needs ensuring operation effectiveness through innovated ways of working. This important leadership role is responsible for strengthening technical capabilities and talent development to design and implement robust bioanalytical strategies including but not limited to endpoints such as PK/ CK, immune response and biomarkers when required to support the AstraZeneca pipeline. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record in drug discovery environment with a particular focus on novel modalities such as CAR-T, AAVs, LNPs, ADCs and alternative antibody formats as well as MAbs. Working with a dynamic team in a matrixed environment you will need to interact with stakeholders, manage expectations, input to project strategy and delivery within a highly skilled bioanalytical team. You will have the opportunity to have an immediate and lasting impact to our diverse pipeline.
The Integrated Bioanalytical team within Clinical Pharmacology and Safety Sciences provides broad discovery, preclinical, and clinical support including life cycle management across all therapeutic areas enabling pipeline delivery, decision making, innovation and advancement to improve the lives of patients through life-changing medicines.
What you’ll do
You will be located at our Gaithersburg US or Cambridge UK site where you will work alongside TA leads and stakeholders.
In this a critical, highly visible role you will work across all therapeutic areas and early research.
As a scientific thought leader, you will be required to make a profound impact to strategic and scientific direction of the portfolio.
You will utilize your experience and proven track record to drive novel technology development and make critical investment decision in new technologies.
You will also work with a range of colleagues across a number of key groups influencing drug design, exposure efficacy relationships and safety and tolerability preparing for candidate selection.
As global leader, you will be responsible for enhance the reputation of Integrated Bioanalysis for scientific excellence by presenting at internal and external meetings, and publishing manuscripts.
The successful candidate will work closely with AstraZeneca laboratory groups within Integrated Bioanalysis and our vendor partners to ensure appropriate bioanalytical and platform strategies, scientific oversight, and delivery across all aspect of the portfolio fostering an environment of scientific knowledge exchange and collaborative contribution.
Education/Experience required:
PhD or MSc. in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, molecular biology, Immunology, or related life science disciplines with significant relevant industry experience

Advance technical applications through novel assays to provide critical PK/PD understanding in early research.
Interpretation of integrated and complicated datasets that aid in advancing portfolio.
Ability to handle multiple projects and / or tasks concurrently in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to evaluate and mitigate portfolio risk via generation of critical data.
Ability to develop, coach and mentor.

Desirable for the role:
Experience in a broad range of novel therapeutic modalities such as cell therapy including CAR-T, gene therapy delivery including AAVs and LNPs as well as RNA therapies, ADCs, immune therapeutics, and conventional small molecules.
Experienced in multiple therapeutic modalities with specific experience in ADCs, novel antibody format and Cell and Gene Therapy
Awareness of regulatory submission needs across geographies.
