As the Global Meetings & Events (GME) Regional Director, you will oversee the delivery of best-in-class face to face, hybrid, and virtual meeting and events planning services that are cost effective and deliver value to AstraZeneca for the EMEA region.
Reporting to the Head of GME, you will work across the Global Business Services organization to drive execution and delivery of AstraZeneca’s global meetings and events service for EMEA. Services include but are not limited to demand management, meeting planning, meeting management company oversight, preferred venue compliance, corporate meeting card program, budget and reconciliation, business analytics and compliance reporting.
This role involves optimizing current services where GME services are deployed, as well as focusing on expanding services in new markets in the region.
Responsibilities:
Leading the delivery of meeting execution utilizing internal resources (approximately 6 direct reports, as well as multiple in-market teams) and external agency partnerships to meet business needs within the framework of compliance obligations, accepted service levels, and cost efficiencies.
Work enterprise-wide to educate on AstraZeneca’s meetings policy and new services.
Providing recommendations to GME Operations Director on Service Governance.
Managing the performance and accountability of suppliers through strong governance and collaboration with clearly articulated set of metrics
Establishing industry and vendor relationships for benchmarking, best practices, and knowledge sharing.
Collaborating with relevant groups to develop detailed internal metrics to ensure the organization is achieving the predetermined Service Level Agreements with key stakeholders.
Acting as the point of contact for problem resolution and concerns from internal stakeholders, external partners, and Event Planning team members
Interface with internal stakeholders through educational forums such as VOC/VOB sessions, and stakeholder plans.
Promoting program or service changes and advising as the GME subject matter expert (SME) in all areas of meetings and events for EMEA.
Partnering with market business leaders to drive positive outcomes supported by key metrics from the program.
Providing continuous feedback to the Head of GME on service levels, customer experience, and input for redesigning or updating services and processes to increase levels of satisfaction.
Develop and implement corrective action resulting from quality control recommendations.
Build and manage a geographically diverse team that supports AstraZeneca’s great place to work initiatives.
Providing coaching and knowledge sharing to Event Planning team to develop management and technical skills.
Influencing all program countries and all associated third parties to ensure data quality.
Critical criteria:
Bachelor’s degree.
5-10 years’ experience managing geographically diverse teams.
Ability to bring creative thinking to match the global meetings and events program with local country requirements.
Strategic mindset to support the Head of GME with strategic projects.
Knowledge of Meeting Planning industry and SMMP experience is a must.
Strong leadership skills with an ability to set a vision, to lead change, and to lead and mentor others.
Strong executive presence with ability to command respect through exercise of sound business judgment, clear decision-making, and execution to better outcomes.
Strong financial acumen.
Demonstrated experience building trusted relationships with Sr. Leadership and other key partners.
Desirable criteria:
Pharmaceutical experience preferred, ideally in EMEA.
Experience with meeting industry technology a plus (CVENT).
