About the role
The Director, Clinical Supply ECP will span across all R&D therapy areas spanning a substantial number of internally sponsored clinical trials. They will be accountable for the Sourcing strategy and Central delivery of both ECP and Auxiliary Medicinal Products to internal studies, ensuring availability of product from external suppliers/competitors at a competitive price and delivered with the right quality, place and time supporting both Clinical Study and Programme management. The role will be accountable for the successful introduction of Regional ECP Leads to develop the Quality and Regulatory framework to ensure AstraZeneca is working compliantly with potential plans to expand the role by transferring local ECP supply into CM&S.
This role is a global line leadership role within Clinical Manufacturing & Supply accountable for leading both the Central and Regional Leads. The role will report into the Oncology Clinical Supply Executive Director, though will support both Therapy Areas. The role holder will lead, develop, manage, and improve ECP strategy, business process and sourcing capabilities ensuring efficient ECP strategy design and no delays to new study start up or disruption to supply to patients throughout the life of a study. The Director, Clinical Supply ECP plays a pivotal leadership role in managing the relationship with external 3rd party suppliers, partnering with Procurement, to drive aligned strategy, drive innovation, improve outcomes and deliver business results.
Key Accountabilities
Line Management of globally based teams
Responsible for line management, mentor and development of team managers and direct reports.
Accountable for the recruitment, training, and capability uplift of the group.
Translating strategy and objectives into a meaningful direction for the group that every individual connects with and fosters a great place to work climate.
Provide leadership, coaching, mentorship, and direction to team members and drive a strong lean culture that promotes standardization, simplification, and continual improvement.
Input into financial budgeting processes and delivery of group to budget.
Global Orchestration and execution of Central and Regional ECP Sourcing
Ensuring effective supply chain strategies for all ECPS for AZ sponsored Clinical Trials for enterprise-wide benefit.
Ensuring effective supply of Centrally sourced ECPs (on-time, in full, right quality to agreed cost) to agreed timelines to enable delivery of the portfolio and meeting clinical landmarks.
Provision of expert ECP support to ensure portfolio & project targets are met including the efficient standard of care selection (inc biosimilars) and influencing of ECP Supply Chain Design.
Ensuring input (central/regional/local) pricing into Supply Application model supporting simulation ahead of SET Governance.
Portfolio and capacity management for group fully aligned with budgeting processes.
Delivery of year-on-year efficiency tracking and improvements, linking with appropriate resource forecasting in PLANIT.
Accountable for supplier management of specified 3rd party ECP suppliers and for leading & engaging in Business review meetings, to ensure delivery of the AZ portfolio On-Time, In Full, Right Quality, at cost for clinical supply requirements.
Identification of key performance metrics and associated continuous improvement of ECP sourcing.
Strategy Development
Leadership and accountability for strategic direction of centrally and regionally supplied ECPs and through partnering with team members, understand and influence outsourcing strategies for the optimal selection, supply chain design and sourcing of ECP’s.
Influential externally and internally to craft policy, standards, and best practice, including being an active member of TransCelerate, a non-profit external organisation, to secure efficient supply of member ECPs, supporting the AZ portfolio.
To be an active member of the Oncology Supply Chain Leadership team taking joint responsibility in developing the vision, strategy and objectives that deliver an efficient end to end clinical supply chain.
Recognised company expert on the optimal selection and supply of ECPs.
Business Process Management
Accountable for Business Process Ownership for relevant business sub-processes (to the BPO owned Business Process for central and regional ECPs) and accountable for driving efficiency in processes and ways of working in the team.
Accountable for providing expert consultancy through the organisation and into related processes support the Clinical Supply Chain Teams.
Business Partnering
Business partnering with Procurement and QA to ensure all sourcing and supply strategies are compliant from a global and local perspective.
Business Partnering with Study Management and Monitoring (SM&M) to design, develop effective enterprise level regional and local ECP strategies.
Collaborative working across Biopharma and Oncology Clinical Supply chains study and programme facing roles across the portfolio, ensuring effective clinical supply chains.
Essential experience & Skills
Degree or equivalent experience or equivalent professional qualification
Leadership experience in a procurement, supply chain or clinical operations environment.
Strong negotiator and influencer with senior collaborators and leadership skills.
Evidence of leading in a matrix environment and capable of working at all levels
Ability to partner across diverse business areas
Confirmed ability to motivate, develop and empower others to accomplish outstanding individual, project, and organisational goals.
Extensive experience of working with and deliver through suppliers
