AstraZeneca UK is seeking a Head of Medical External Engagement & Innovation to deliver improved patient outcomes at scale through strategic system level partnerships and to lead Primary Care innovation strategy.

Leading Strategic System Partnerships

Reporting directly to the Medical & Scientific Affairs Director, the Head of Medical External Engagement & Innovation will be accountable for the AZ UK medical engagement strategy for major system level NHS partners (ICS and above) to deliver partnerships that will improve patient outcomes at scale.
Through highly visible personal engagement, the individual will deliver AZ medical leadership to shape, operationalize and evidence the impact of collaborative projects that are developed under the umbrella of each strategic partnership. The incumbent will be accountable for ensuring that all projects fully align with AZ UK medical strategy and that internal stakeholders and resources are aligned to support project pull-through. The role will be aligned to the BioPharmaceuticals Business Unit portfolio.
Leading AZ Primary Care Innovation agenda
NHS stakeholders recognise that fundamental change to the model of care is required to cope with the increase in prevalence of Long-Term Conditions and increased investment in high tech community services is required to reduce the demand on Secondary Care resources. With a detailed knowledge of Primary Care and a focus on innovation, the incumbent will engage externally to ensure AZ is an active partner on this agenda and will collaborate internally to ensure AstraZeneca Population Health Services are at the ‘cutting edge’ and fully leverage the next wave of innovative Primary Care solutions.
In the course of work on these two core elements of the role, the incumbent will identify innovative partnerships that will expedite future launches of pipeline assets into clinical practice and will be encouraged to develop additional high-impact strategic partnerships.
Essential Skills/Experience:
- Registered Physician or Pharmacist
- Experience of working in NHS as a clinician and/or commissioner/medical director with a strong, credible external network
- Detailed knowledge of the UK healthcare system with strong understanding of NHS structures and priorities
- Strong subject area knowledge and external credibility across CVRM and Respiratory Medicine
- Strong business acumen
- High degree of personal accountability/autonomy but able to work optimally as part of an extended team.
Desirable Skills/Experience:
- Member/Fellow of a Royal College or the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
- Strong working relationships with Global leaders in Respiratory/CVRM medicine, including KEEs, professional societies, pharmaceutical companies.
- Proven success in building and implementing multi-year strategic roadmaps.
- Experience leading project teams with a track record of delivering results in a complex environment.
- Prior experience working in an Industry Medical Affairs role.
- Knowledge of ABPI Code of Practice.
