Accountabilities:
As the Senior Director of Global Media Relations, you will be responsible for acting as a spokesperson for the company to secure coverage that drives the company’s strategy enabling the business to achieve its targets for 2030 and beyond. Your role engages media to shape how the media understand and support the company across key corporate topics and issues at global level while supporting regional and country media teams as appropriate. You will develop active news gathering intelligence, handle media proactively, and lead responses to incoming media requests. Your role will also involve developing and implementing proactive and reactive media relations strategies that support AstraZeneca’s objectives and mission. You will form relationships with key business and trade media contacts around the world, develop and run communications programs, coordinate interviews and press conferences with executives and other key personnel, supervise and analyse media coverage of the company, directly brief and advise Senior Executive Team members on messaging and media relations strategies, handle crisis communications, and work with other GCA departments to ensure consistent messaging across all channels. As a Senior Director, you will also deputise for the Head of Global Media Relations as required.
Essential Skills/Experience:
- Hands-on experience leading proactive/reactive global media relations programmes (broadcast, print and digital) involving sophisticated regulatory, financial and scientific topics
- Experience in engaging global media in a highly regulated sector
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience working with senior leaders including around media interviews and visibility in other executive external engagements (identifying opportunities, securing interviews, pre-briefing, hosting, and follow up)
- Expertise in management of geopolitical affairs
- Global experience
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical and/or healthcare industry, preferably including financial communications
- Public relations background, or journalism experience
