FM Conway is seeking a talented and motivated Senior Highway Design Engineer to join our dynamic Consultancy team. As a Senior Highway Design Engineer, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our urban landscapes across London and the Southeast. Reporting directly to the Senior Engineer, you will be involved in all stages of highway schemes, from initial feasibility studies, through to design, consultation, and implementation. You will have the opportunity to work on various aspects of highway engineering, such as highway geometric design, public realm design, cycle infrastructure development, bus scheme improvements, junction design, drainage systems, including Sustainable Urban Drainage (SUD), safety enhancement schemes, implementation of 20 mph zones, parking scheme design, utility diversions (NRSWA), Section 38/278 works and Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM) measures. You will also have the opportunity to work closely with our implementation teams, supporting projects through to construction and completion.
This is a full time, permanent position, based from our Paddington office in London.
The duties of the Senior Highway Design Engineer will include:
- Developing excellent and effective collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, external providers, clients and other agencies
- Assisting with monthly programme and financial reporting, ensuring projects are delivered in line with forecast budgets and resource allocations
- Liaising with the client team on progress, providing clear and timely updates
- Preparing reports, drawings, schedules, bills of quantities, cost estimates and other documents in accordance with local procedures
- Ensuring technical reports and correspondence consider current policies, standards and best practices and are delivered on time
- Leading small design teams and mentoring junior team members
- Undertaking designer duties as required under the CDM Regulations
- Liaising effectively with other designers and key stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery
- Supporting risk management activities, including risk identification, mitigation and reporting
- Supporting the delivery of highway engineering solutions from feasibility through to implementation
- Preparing and reviewing road safety audit briefs and designer responses
- Supporting project management and monitoring financial performance
- Working collaboratively across FM Conway's Consultancy and wider business to provide an integrated service to clients
- Ensuring day-to-day correspondence and communications are handled professionally, efficiently and effectively
