Purpose of the Role:


Reporting to the Head of Operational Safety, you will be accountable for the production and delivery of Route Risk Assessments and driver route learning aids that comply with both Freightliner and industry documented procedures and guidance. This will require collaboration with key industry stakeholders and subject matter experts within our Rail Operational teams. The role will involve the mapping of current and future rail paths and creating a risk-based plan to have in place both risk assessments and driver route learning aids for current and future paths., In addition, you will actively sample the quality of risk assessments and learning aids through verification and represent Operations when new business is identified that may require additional paths to be considered.


Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Identify new and existing routes to be assessed and recorded and create a plan to deliver these
  • Review current and ongoing routes to ensure they are up to date and compliant with current industry guidance
  • Development of the route risk assessments throughout the UK by actively communicating with the operations team
  • Use information from accident and incident reporting, trade unions, audit, driver surveys and other feedback mechanisms to continually improve the route risk assessments and driver training aids
  • Maintain personal competence as a train driver
  • Support the Operational Safety team with the ongoing development and maintenance of the ROSS documents
  • Support the Operational Safety team with the communication of new and existing routes and any significant hazards identified
  • Sample through verification the Operational team to ensure route knowledge is being assessed
  • Actively participate in and drive implementation of improvements to the Operational Safety team
  • Understand, implement, and comply with the Freightliner health, safety, environment and wellbeing policies.
  • Monitor compliance to meet internal control procedures and take appropriate corrective action
    Qualifications and Experience:
    Essential:
  • Train driving licence
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent and or working towards
  • Good understanding of health and safety legislation can demonstrate implementation of health and safety procedures in safety critical environments
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral
  • Strong organisation/planning skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability and desire to build strong working relationships
    Preferred:
  • Experience within a Rail / Maritime / Transportation environment.
  • IOSH Technical Professional membership
  • Trainer and assessor qualifications (NVQ Level 4 and A1) or equivalent
  • Verification qualification (V1)
  • Good understanding of diversity and its impact on behaviours
  • Good people skills and ability to present to all levels of the business
