The job description is a guide to the work you will be required to undertake. It may be changed in the future to meet changing circumstances and does not form part of your contract of employment.

As the jobholder you have a responsibility for your own training and development needs in conjunction with your line Manager. You have a duty to act responsibly and take reasonable steps for your Health and Safety and that of other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work and also to co-operate with Management in the implementation of the Group Health and Safety Policy.

Purpose of Job

To organise via Freightliners & Terminal operation staff the loading and unloading of container traffic to & from the appropriate train services, using the most cost effective process with customer/Freightliner requirements.

Principal Accountabilities

  • To determine correct route of movement from customers paperwork.
  • Using IPro and other forms of information advising terminals of planned container numbers to be loaded to nominated service before designated cut offs.
  • Forward paperwork to Freightliners operations staff advising containers to be loaded to nominated services.
  • To ensure that all safety aspects involved in container transit by rail and/or Terminal processes are strictly adhered to.
  • To ensure containers are moved and arrive within the time period given to by the customer.
  • Assist customers/representatives in all general queries regarding their consignment in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure all document’s required for movement by customer are forwarded on correct service.
  • Ensure all export traffic is promptly and efficiently shipped as per customer’s requirements and report any failures back to customer.
  • Ensure all import traffic is promptly and efficiently railed as per customer’s requirements and report any failures back to customer.
  • Using IT systems provided to ensure shipment & discharge information prior to train arrival.
  • Monitor and maintain control over export containers moved through ports.
  • Maintain control over ‘missed’ import and exports and ensure all customers informed of Current situation.
  • Provide adequate liaison with customers in regard to problems effecting export/import traffic.
  • Process all export documentation as required.
  • Highlight any queries that cannot be resolved to Intermodal Manager.
  • Monitor inland export bookings and liaise with inland terminals as required.
  • Maintain current export information including vessel timings.
  • Provide daily export information.
  • Prepare/organise/report and monitor all off hire traffic to and from external sources.
  • Booking of non-exec boxes to Freightliner UVI pending corrective action from customer.
  • Daily reporting and updating of shunt lists.
  • Weight discrepancy reporting.
  • Adhere to Safety Responsibility Statement.
  • To be able to assist with any other duties requested of them by the Line Manager or other senior managers.

General

To be flexible in both attitude and hours. To have due regard for Health and safety legislation.

Safety Responsibility Statement

Responsible for own safety as is reasonable, must adhere to all policy rules, location LWI or other guidance affecting role. Ensure that advice is sought when required from Line Manager, Safety Department or others. Ensure that accidents, incidents or any perceived unsafe acts are reported timeously.
