Lead Front-End Software Engineer

FundApps

Location: Greater London

Job Type: Full time

FundApps is a SaaS scaleup that helps investment managers monitor and comply with worldwide regulations. We were one of the world's first "RegTechs" and we're shaking up an entire industry. Our clients love what we do and this has led to phenomenal consistent revenue growth.

Our first area of focus was to help managers with Shareholding Disclosure, a complex regulatory problem without a fit-for-purpose solution in the market. Since that time, our service has become the undisputed market leader for the management of Shareholding Disclosure. We have also added new ground-breaking services - Sensitive Industries and Position Limits - and in 2020, introduced Rapportr to make reporting simple for our clients.

Everyday, our service monitors a collective US$14 trillion in assets under management on behalf of clients ranging from US$50 million Hedge Funds to the largest Sovereign Wealth Fund in the world.

We’re a growing team of 102 FundAppers and over 30 nationalities at last count. We have offices in London, New York and Singapore and remote employees spread across the globe. In 2018, we became a Certified B Corporation and in 2019 were recognised as a B Corp 'Best for the World' Honoree - highlighting our commitment to doing good by our people, the environment and the community. FundAppers are smart, friendly people who collaborate closely and take pride in delivering amazing software and providing extraordinary customer support. You’ll help shape what we work on and how we do it. You won’t be micro-managed or stuck in a rut. We work hard on challenging problems and have a good time doing it!

We ❤️ clean, simple code.

We believe focusing on automation, testing and code quality enables us to move faster than our competitors whilst delivering better software. Our team values are professionalism, sustainability, and psychological safety; we hold each other to high standards, give each other considered, caring feedback, work smart and look out for each other. Our Rapptr Apps team looks after our client-facing platform, ensuring that our users have everything they need to navigate large and complex data sets and taking action on high priority tasks. We’re looking for a Lead/Principal engineer for the team, who can guide deliveries and individuals and support the team in the continuous improvement of our tech and processes. This role combines line management of 3-5 people, delivery management and technical stewardship to continue our strong tradition of building high-performing teams and great products.

About you

  • You’re a hands-on developer and have recent experience with architecting, building and maintaining full-stack web applications, preferably using React and Typescript.
  • As an experienced technical leader, you’re comfortable spending a proportion of your time upskilling others, coaching best practices and supporting good tech decision-making in a collaborative way.
  • You’re experienced in guiding teams and Product Managers in the endless trade-offs in the quest to “build the right product, and build the product right”.
  • You have a proven track record of high quality delivery in an agile environment.
  • You have taken responsibility for the career progression and development of individuals in your area, either formally or informally.
  • You are a team player who focuses on team success over individual output, and are always willing to help your colleagues out.
  • What you'll be working on

  • As one of our leads in the Rapptr Apps team, you’ll be responsible for guiding the team through technical decision-making and work break-down.
  • You will identify ways to improve our overall architecture and technical standards, working with tech, team and product leaders in your own area and others to help us improve the overall tech culture of FundApps. Some of these changes will be significant and play out over long periods… we have a broad goal to move fully onto cloud-native architecture, break down our code monolith and continue refining our ability to deploy multiple times a day.
  • You’ll help ensure the success of our products as well as our tech by focusing on good working practices, slicing stories, taking sensible approaches to technical risk and encouraging a test-and-learn mindset as you go.
  • More broadly, with happy customers on long term contracts we are investing in our platform to prepare for the next phase of our journey. You will be a key contributor to the evolution of the platform to support ambitious plans to grow market share and launch new products.
  • Our core technologies

  • Front-end: React, TypeScript
  • Back-end: C#
  • Data storage: PostgreSQL, SQL Server and S3.
  • Infrastructure: Terraform and AWS, using Fargate, Lambda, Step functions, and a lot more!
  • Pipeline: Github Actions, TeamCity and Octopus Deploy

  • We have a few other niche and legacy pieces hanging around (yes, including JQuery!). While the majority of our development work is on the above technologies, we appreciate flexibility. Removing the remaining parts of our Windows infrastructure and converting fully to a serverless architecture is a priority for our technical roadmap in 2022.
We don't expect you to tick every box; if you get warm fuzzy feelings about what we're trying to achieve at FundApps, then we want to hear from you!

This can be a fully remote or hybrid position to those residing in the UK, Spain, Portugal, Netherlands, Croatia, Denmark, Switzerland, Sweden, Iceland and Poland. We require a standard B2 grade of spoken language as a minimum. We have a fully accessible office in Shoreditch, London.
