Engineering Manager

FundApps

Location: Greater London

Job Type: Full time

FundApps is a SaaS scaleup that helps investment managers monitor and comply with worldwide regulations. We were one of the world's first "RegTechs" and we're shaking up an entire industry. Our clients love what we do (Net Promoter Scores of 45) and this has lead to phenomenal and consistent revenue growth. Scottish Equity Partners completed a significant growth equity investment in May 2021 and became minority investors in FundApps.

Our first area of focus was to help managers with Shareholding Disclosure, a complex regulatory problem without a decent solution in the market. We were first to licence legal information from aosphere, an affiliate of Allen & Overy, which underpins some of our rule packages. Since that time, our product has become the undisputed market leader for the management of Shareholding Disclosure. We have also added new ground-breaking services - Sensitive Industries and Position Limits - and in 2020 introduced Rapportr to make reporting simple for our clients.

In 2018, we became a Certified B Corporation and in 2019 were recognised as a B Corp 'Best for the World' Honoree - highlighting our commitment to doing good by our people, the environment and the community. We've also won multiple accolades from organisations such as Wired, The Financial Technologist, World Economic Forum and Deloitte. In total we monitor over $14 trillion in assets under management every single day - this represents ca. 15% of global assets - ranging from hedge funds to some of the world’s largest asset managers, and we're just getting started!

We're a growing team of smart, friendly people with over 30 nationalities at last count. We have offices in London, New York and Singapore and remote employees spread across the globe. Keep scrolling to learn more!

We collaborate closely and take pride in delivering amazing software and providing extraordinary customer support. You’ll help shape what we work on and how we do it. You won’t be micro-managed or stuck in a rut. We work hard on challenging problems and have a good time doing it. We believe focusing on automation, testing and code quality enables us to move faster than our competitors whilst delivering better software. Our team values are professionalism, sustainability, and psychological safety; we hold each other to high standards, give each other considered, caring feedback, work smart and look out for each other. What you'll do

People. Process. People or Process? As an Engineering Manager at FundApps you'll obsess about improving People and Process. You will help a highly motivated and intelligent team hone their craft and, crucially, deliver high quality software at a sustainable pace. You will report to the Director of Engineering and work alongside our two other Engineering Managers to nurture the next generation of FundApps Engineering leaders and promote top of the range engineering practices.

Your responsibilities

  • You’ll be expected to bring the benefit of your delivery experience to teams, helping them achieve great things by managing scope and approach. You’ll work closely with our Product Managers to create successful outcomes, balancing pragmatism and technical purity.
  • Looking after 5-10 engineers as a line manager. At FundApps, that means supporting their personal career development and professional growth, helping them to stay happy, motivated and engaged at work, carrying out administrative and pastoral duties (performance reviews, promotions, support rotas etc).
  • Growing FundApps Engineering by guiding the growth of our engineering culture which is inclusive, open, confident, tolerant and results-focused. Keeping an eye on the bigger picture, being ready for the next big opportunity. Keeping ahead of the curve on hiring, making sure we have a good balance of skills, experience and expertise.
  • What you'll bring to the team

  • You are passionate about delivering software. You understand the application of techniques that allow teams to excel and make outstanding contributions repeatedly. Maybe you introduced these ways of working to a team.
  • You enjoy helping others to fulfil their potential.
  • You already have line management experience for a number of software engineers and have been involved in the cycle of guidance, progression and review conversations.
  • You might have had to make difficult decisions about team members.
  • You are a pragmatist who believes in strong opinions weakly held. What works in one context doesn't work in another. You've probably practised several flavours of Agile, Lean and XP at various points in your career and have a sense of what works, where and why.
  • You enjoy rolling your sleeves up and diving in. You spot those jobs that just need doing and are humble enough to crack on and get it sorted. You'll probably automate it out of existence if it happens more than twice.
  • Our core technologies

  • Front-end: React, TypeScript
  • Back-end: C#
  • Data storage: PostgreSQL, SQL Server and S3.
  • Infrastructure: Terraform and AWS, using Fargate, Lambda, Step functions, and a lot more!
  • Pipeline: Github Actions, TeamCity and Octopus Deploy
  • Monitoring: DataDog, PagerDuty
  • We don't expect you to tick every box; if you get warm fuzzy feelings about what we're trying to achieve at FundApps, then we want to hear from you!
