Great opportunity to recruit a Fleet Maintenance Controller based at Three Bridges
Job purpose
Plan all maintenance, repair and service quality schedules for rolling stock fleets, forecasting work availability to ensure depots have a constant workload and that depot output and rolling stock deployment meets the requirements specified by the train plan. To ensure that accurate mileages and relevant unit defects are recorded in the appropriate systems.
To manage any fleet defects that occur in traffic and effectively manage their resolution with the minimum impact on train service either reported by telephone or email and support the Fleet Operations Support Manager with stricken train events as required.

- Best in class levels of fleet availability, delivered consistently and predictably
- Delivery of all maintenance and repair activities on time, in line with agreed SLA with an average mileage and day count to exam at zero
- Delivery of long, medium and short term workable maintenance plans which lead to balanced workload across GTR depots
- Maintenance delivered on time within the prescribed mileage/time limitations in line with depot SLAs whilst ensuring the availability targets are consistently achieved
- Demonstrable reduction in Primary Impact Minutes through co-operative engagement and expedient resolution of stricken train events and defects reported
Key results area (How those Expected Outcomes will be achieved)
- Identify amendments to the train service plan, or working arrangements and practices, which lead to more robust presentation of the fleet
- Monitor the maintenance and fleet service quality plans, reviewing them in light of contingencies and taking action to ensure both short and long term objectives of the plans, in particular with respect to mileage based/safety critical aspects are achieved
- Monitor all elements of fleet maintenance including mileage and days based maintenance, defect repairs, UAT, wheelset turning and heavy repairs
- Provide technical assessment and assistance to traincrew when dealing with in service fleet defects to minimise their affect on the train service in particular adhering to GTR's DOTE/defect matrix, various aide memoirs and the cut and run policy
- Liaise with the Train service Managers/Depots when assessing the impact of the failure to ensure that the most appropriate recovery plan is implemented
- Ensure that the integrity of GENIUS, XV and other appropriate systems is maintained. This will include both the routine daily allocation of rolling stock within GENIUS as well as any regular updating of fleet mileages and defects following service disruption
- Responsible for ensuring that fleet defects are dealt with in accordance with GTR Fleet Standards in conjunction with the support of the Fleet Operations Support Manager with stricken train events as required.
- Responsible for calling out Fleet on-call staff to attend to defects/incidents as circumstances allow in conjunction with the support of Fleet Operations Support Manager with stricken train events as required.
- Deploy the fleet into revenue earning service, ensuring the requirements of the train service plan are met, with particular attention to ensuring that stock allocations and formations comply with Franchise obligations.
- Completion of other activities as directed by the Fleet Planning and Performance Manager to support the delivery of GTR's objectives.
Knowledge
- Educated to GCSE Level including English and Mathematics
- Thorough knowledge of Railway Rule Book Principals
- Knowledge levels of all types of GTR Rolling Stock
- Knowledge of rolling stock maintenance plans
- Knowledge of route geography
Skills
- Excellent communication skills are required, including both verbal and written
- Professional telephone manner, consistent approach, professional manner and an ability to lead conversations and influence effective outcomes
- Able to work in a pressured environment and without supervision
- Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to assess train service issues assertively and professionally and put forward GTR's Customer requirements, taking action to ensure a reliable and punctual Railway is delivered
- Ability to develop action plans and implement contingency plans
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft office and enterprise systems.
- Capable of achieving competence requirements of this role
- Self-motivated and able to react to a wide variety of situations.

- Experience of a rolling stock maintenance planning/ operation

- Experience in relevant IT systems – Maximo, Genius, TAFFS
