About the role:-
The Head of Media is a critical role for the business, accountable for defining and delivering our media and PR strategy and growing the reputation of the biggest rail company in the UK.
As Head of Media you will have a key role in developing and implementing the GTR narrative going forward, helping to promote the company and enhancing its reputation, in a complex industrial and political landscape. In charge of a team of media relations experts, you will have significant footprint across the business working in direct collaboration with a range of directors and subject matter experts.
This is a varied and challenging senior role, communicating the company's standpoint on issues ranging from service performance and planned engineering to the future of the railway, which will be guided by Great British Railways (GBR) and require expertise from the rail operators across the UK.
GTR is rightly scrutinised by a range of stakeholders and is seldom out of the headlines, although an increasing proportion are favourable towards the company. This more favourable climate has provided an opportunity in the past few years to promote GTR to an external audience, ranging from encouraging travel to destinations across our network, to promoting improvements across our stations and fleet, and celebrating our colleagues and diverse workforce.
Duties to include:-
- Leading on the handling of PR issues and crisis in liaison with the director of PR
- Setting KPIs and actively monitoring progress
- Working closely with other senior communications managers in the business, in particular public affairs, internal communications, customer info and customer relations.
- Devising a programme of engagement with journalists, national & regional
