The Compliance function is a Second line of defence (LOD) function, responsible for reviewing and challenging the activities of the Group’s businesses (also referred to as “the First LOD”) to ensure that they effectively manage, as “Risk Owners”, the Regulatory and Financial Crime Compliance risks inherent in or arising from the conduct of their activities and for which they are responsible. The Second LOD consists of 'Risk Stewards' who are independent of the commercial risk-taking activities undertaken by the First LOD. The Compliance function is a Risk Steward for a number of non-financial risks in accordance with HSBC Group’s risk framework.
We are currently seeking an ambitious individual to join our team as a Typology Library Manager, working together with colleagues to define, manage and achieve divisional business targets.
Role Purpose
The role of Manager, Typology Library is to support the Product Owner in delivering and embedding the Financial Crime Typology Library to serve as a standardised, single source of known financial crime typologies. The typologies and indicators it contains bring strategic value to a range of HSBC’s threat mitigation efforts, enabling the Risk Assessment function to articulate both current and emerging financial crime issues in a way which drives improvements directly to our control environment.
The role is part of the Group Financial Crime Analysis (FCA) team, which focuses on the financial crime threats HSBC faces now and in the future, pioneering the techniques and technology that protect our business, our customers, and the many communities in which we operate from the harms associated with financial crime.
Within Financial Crime, the Financial Crime Analysis function provides proprietary insight into the most significant financial crime issues facing HSBC and our growth strategy, enabling the Bank to focus on its customers whilst understanding and managing inherent financial crime risks as part of Intelligence-Led Financial Crime Risk Management (ILFRCM). We aspire to be HSBC’s ‘go to’ source of expertise on geopolitical and jurisdictional drivers of financial crime, criminal threats, actors and typologies. Our teams develop deep expertise on these topics; their product informs, provides meaningful context, and explains the impact of these issues on the Bank and its strategy.
In this role, you will:
- Support the design, testing and implementation of the Financial Crime Typology Library, and become proficient in the use of the Typology Library.
- Support the Product Owner to embed the tool across the FCA to become and remain single source of typology insights to inform risk stewards and control owners of evolving financial crime threats.
- Support and drive Typology Library-related collaborative initiatives and governance work streams, including with Transactional Monitoring Risk Assessment (TMRA), Dynamic Risk Assessment (DRA).
- Regular engagement with Compliance Transformation and IT Development team on the design and testing of new functionalities that need to be introduced to the tool.
- Ongoing curation of the Typology Library inventory, including close collaboration of various stakeholders, including Regional FCA, Complex investigations, Major Investigations, line of business, Business Financial Crime Risks(BFCRs), etc.
- Lead on engagement with stakeholders on both vertically and horizontally linking the tool with other technologies and process, such as Regulatory Compliance’s Rapid2 tool.
- Regular delivery of briefings and demos to senior stakeholders of the tool and its evolution.
- Lead on the running and management of the Typology Validation Forum (TVF), including reviewing quality of submissions, pack preparations, following-up on actions.
