The Role
Our fantastic Engineering Apprenticeship opportunity has arisen for aspiring engineers to join our scheme at the Port of Felixstowe. We are looking for multiple apprentices to continue our fantastic relationship with Colchester Institute. In your first year, you will be based at Colchester Institute, where you will be studying `full-time and trained to prepare for your then on-site placements in both year two and three.
During the three-year apprenticeship agreement, you will be provided with excellent opportunities to work on live projects and state of the art operational equipment, whilst being introduced to the engineering requirements within Hutchison Ports UK.
You will be required to make your own travel arrangements to Colchester Institute and Port of Felixstowe for the duration of your apprenticeship.

Suitable applicants will have the following competencies;
- A passion for learning and engineering
- Demonstrable problem-solving skills.
- Apprentices must also be enthusiastic, resilient and can demonstrate good problem solving and team working abilities.
Essential Requirements:
- Evident interest in engineering as a subject.
- In line with industry Code of Practice, successful applicants must be a minimum of 18 years old prior to the apprenticeship commencing in August 2025.
- Maths GCSE's Level 5 (High C/ C+) or above.
- English GSCE’s Level 4 (C) or above.
- Hold a full driver’s licence (by August 2026).
Desirable:
- Experience of engineering activities are advantageous but not necessary. This may include: Hobbies or voluntary work.
- Previous work experience.
- Engineering related school subjects.
- GCSE Level 3 – Science.

- Aptitude Testing Day: 2nd April 2025 – Colchester Institute
- Assessment Centre: 16th & 17th April 2025 – Port of Felixstowe
- Interviews: Week Commencing 28th April 2025 – Interviews will be held on-site at the Port of Felixstowe
