An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Emergency Response Unit for an Emergency Medical Technician to join the specialist team at The Port of Felixstowe, the largest UK’s largest deep-water port.
The Emergency Response Unit (ERU) is a specialised service that provides the port community with a total emergency response solution, each team member is multi trained and specialises in Medical, Fire and Technical Rescue services, including rescue at height and confined spaces within an industrial environment.
With a starting salary of £48,169 inclusive of shift pay, and upon successful completion of training this will increase to £50,302 per annum.
Key Requirements
- Willingness to learn and understand a very specialist and multiskilled role whilst working in a heavily industrial environment.
- Attend all emergency incident calls in an operational capacity, as directed by the Watch Manager and when necessary, take the lead of such incidents until relieved by a senior person.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with the staff of the Occupational Health Centre.
- Aid investigations when incidents occur, helping to find the cause of accidents, fires or other emergency incidents as directed and provide recommendations for improvements.
- Ensure that equipment is fully maintained and ready for use by completing all daily, weekly and monthly checks without direct supervision, on all plant and equipment relating to the ERU and fire safety.
- Adhere to published Emergency Response Unit Role and Responsibilities, clinical, fire and technical rescue governance standards at all times.
- Remain compliant with applicable standing orders and instructions within the Emergency Response Unit relating to daily station routines, at all times, without direct supervision.
- Undertake training and drills to ensure operational readiness.
- Pass and maintain the ERU service fitness standard.
This role covers a 4 on 4 off shift pattern, working a mixture of days and nights. Please note this is subject to shift change due to operational demands.

Suitable applicants should meet the following criteria:
Essential:
- Proven experience within your field
- Emergency Medical Technicians must have a valid EMT/AAP qualification or have completed the FREUC 5 pathway with 750 placement hours
- Have a clean Group C1 driving licence
- Be prepared to attend and pass the Fire and Rescue Service Approved to Ride and Breathing Apparatus Training
- Attend and pass all Technical Rescue and Confined Space training
- Comfortable and capable of working at height as part of a rescue team
- Physically fit to meet the demands of this role

- Make complex judgments and decisions in assessing the risk of accidents
- Ability to deal with stressful situations e.g. emergency incidents involving serious personal injury or death, being interviewed by enforcement agencies or appearing in court on behalf of the Company.
