We are recruiting into our Multi-Skilled Port Operative team in London Thamesport!
Experience is not required as full training is provided, but a positive work ethic is essential alongside a can-do attitude, reliability, flexibility and the ability to learn and develop new skills.
This role's duties each shift would vary depending on need, and would include work such as:
Rubber Tyred Gantry Crane (RTG)
Responsibilities include the following:
- To operate RTGs for the purpose of handling containers within designated RTG blocks.
- Where required to do so, perform daily checks / maintenance of assigned plant. Report any maintenance requirement or damage to Control in the normal manner.
- Be responsible for ensuring that the RTG under the operation of self, is parked correctly when called upon to do so and plugged in to shore supply before leaving.
- Performing ‘Housekeeping’ duties as required within the block, including the stacking and de-stacking of all containers.
- Undertake block checks of containers as required within areas of terminal operations to supply lists of numbers/information to Control.
- Report any container/tank/cargo damage or leak, advising the Operations Superintendent/Shift Manager immediately by radio, to enable necessary action to be taken and documentation to be completed.
- Under Supervision, and through use of own initiative, provide the most efficient service to all users of the RTG Park, including Tugs, Hauliers and Rail.
- Prioritise work as requested by Supervision when assigned to specific areas.
- Ensure that any documentation handling is correctly completed and maintained.
- Be aware of any hazards in the vicinity of the plant and drive accordingly.
- Using radio, verbal, written instructions or hand signals, clearly communicate with all relevant personnel to ensure the safe and accurate positioning of containers within the RTG blocks.
- Follow correct radio protocols and keep airtime to a minimum.
- Using data terminals provided to ensure the correct messaging, recording and positioning of containers.
Internal Movement Vehicles (IMV)
Responsibilities include the following:
- Operating IMV to move containers and cargo from vessels to yard storage areas, as allocated by grounding requirements and vice-versa.
- Operating IMV to shunt containers and Cargo to and from yard/rail locations as directed.
- Utilising computer technology provided in the IMVs, where tasked, for all container movements.
- Compiling with provisions of Safe Code of Practice Container Operations specifically but not exclusively, Sections 3 & 4.
- Performing daily checks and minor maintenance of assigned IMVs.
The role is shift-based, with a mixture of days, rest days, and standby shifts.
