Role Purpose:

As the Tax Manager - UK, Europe & North America at Iress you will operate in a global Finance Reporting team where you will bring your passion for tax compliance and consulting. Identifying areas of improvement will come naturally to you. Working closely with both the Group Tax function in Australia, and the Finance function in the UK, Europe and North America, this is a highly collaborative environment where you will bring your strong communication and technical skills to help impact decisions across the business.

Your objectives and responsibilities will focus on...

Delivery of UK, Europe and North America tax compliance, which may include in-house preparation/review or alternatively the management of external advisor preparation:

  • UK corporate tax returns;

  • US state-based sales tax returns;

  • UK and EU VAT returns;

  • Canada corporate and limited partnership tax returns;

  • Other global tax compliance items, including but not limited to: tax instalment payments; withholding tax; ad hoc employment-related tax filings (e.g. short term business visitors); assistance in other global tax compliance delivery where needed (e.g. France, South Africa).

Delivery of periodic tax statutory reporting and reconciliations, including:

  • Ongoing reconciliation of VAT and WHT balances for the relevant regions;

  • Prepare detailed tax effect accounting workpapers for the relevant regions, to support tax disclosures in global and local statutory reporting;

  • Work with external advisors and auditors in the resolution of statutory tax-related queries.

Tax advisory: provide tax advice to the relevant regions on business transactions, including:

  • Ongoing monitoring of tax law and business changes for potential tax impacts, and/or manage external advisors on the same;

  • Provide transaction-related support, especially around integration activities and implementation of technical tax advice received from advisors;

  • Proactive partnering with the Payroll, Remunerations and People teams to effectively address employment tax related matters and governance gaps;

  • Review contracts with external parties to advise the business on tax implications.

Governance and controls: document and enhance tax processes and controls, especially around VAT/sales taxes and employment-related taxes. May include:

  • Review and update existing process documentation as required;

  • Identify potential control weaknesses and governance risks;

  • Develop, implement and document new tax processes as required.

Involvement in managing R&D and transfer pricing projects for the relevant regions, including:

  • Real-time engagement with the business to understand impact on existing models;

  • Manage external advisors to achieve desired outcomes;

  • Prepare or manage outsourced documentation required for the regions, including but not limited to: UK and French R&D claims, French transfer pricing documentation (in English).

To be successful in this role you will…

Be a qualified UK Chartered Tax Advisor and ideally have 6+ years of corporate tax experience gained from a mixture of practice and industry roles.

You will be a natural innovator and always striving for improvement with a positive and collaborative mind set.

Have the autonomy and initiative to independently carry out tax projects and advise the business without the need for detailed oversight.

A keen ability to think through full solutions and solve problems, moving beyond plugging a hole but understanding root cause and desired outcomes and the ability to prioritise and balance recurring tasks alongside project work and adhere to deadlines.

Strong commercial acumen, in particular the awareness of potential tax risk in routine and non-routine processes/transactions, and reacting to changes in tax law or the business environment with Strong tax effect accounting skills.

Experience in the following areas will be considered favourably:

  • Tax regimes of overseas regions, especially US and France

  • Taxation of employee share schemes

  • Tax governance (e.g. Senior Accounting Officer, DAC6, controls testing)

  • Transfer pricing

  • Software systems: Alphatax, Netsuite (Oracle), Workday Adaptive Planning

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
