As a Commis Chef in Amenity Services department, you will work alongside experienced Executive Chefs and a diverse, talented, and innovative food and beverage brigade. As a Commis Chef Apprentice in Amenity Services department, you will work alongside experienced Executive Chefs and a diverse, talented, and innovative food and beverage brigade. Working as a commis chef is a great way of getting started in a kitchen; while it’s the most junior culinary role it provides a means of learning a range of key skills on the job. A commis chef prepares food and carries out basic cooking tasks under the supervision of a more senior chef. We work with fresh, high-quality produce and create dishes from scratch. The Amenity Services department supply the food and beverage operation for all areas of the Client and Conference Centres, this can be from tea and coffee for a meeting for two clients through to a 500-delegate event serving Michelin level dishes and everything in between! The minimum duration for this apprenticeship is 12 months. We offer a very competitive salary based on a 35-hour Monday to Friday work week. Progression from this apprenticeship is expected to be into a chef de partie role.
Job responsibilities
- To work in the client center kitchen carrying out preparation and making of all food offers
- To ensure that the methods of preparation, presentation of all food, comply with the company’s policies, client specifications and legislation
- To ensure that the preparation, presentation, and execution of the food are carried to the required standard
- To assist with food order for section
- To assist with stock rotation and control
- To ensure that temperature records are completed daily for each function and recharged accordingly
- To carry out any reasonable management request
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Few months experience minimum in quality dining environment
- Passion for hospitality and attention to detail
- Assist with running of designated section
- Commitment to teamwork and good communicational skills
- An energy and enthusiasm for learning and developing
- Ability to demonstrate flexibility and operate in a changeable environment
- Have achieved, or have ambition to achieve culinary qualifications (NVQs, apprentice)
