LV General Insurance continues to grow and having joined Allianz in 2019, sitting under their Personal umbrella, we are now part of the largest UK Personal Insurer.
Within this role you will lead the underwriting team responsible for developing and managing Allianz Personal Retail products and underwriting controls, and pursuing related commercial opportunities.
You will be tasked with optimising Allianz Personal’s risk selection through the development of monitoring, capability and tools to ensure delivery against strategic aims.
Their will be up to 30 direct reports who sit under the Underwriting Director, including head of departments across multiple sites. The role will also include regular interaction with senior managers, including members of the executive team.
About you
Educated to degree level.
Relevant professional qualification, eg ACII or FCII.
Extensive GI underwriting experience at senior management level in the direct channel (including PCWs and partners) especially Motor and Home.
Excellent knowledge of the market and regulatory environment.
Proven experience of product development and implementation.
Significant experience of leading and managing multi site teams.
Experience of developing and maintaining industry contacts (especially in the ABI).
Commercial approach – understands the business and focused on the bottom line.
Abilty to manage Exec level stakeholders.
Drive to deliver and able to do so through others.
Ability to see the bigger picture.

To lead, motivate and develop a sustainable and diverse team of underwriting professionals who work together to deliver the Retail Strategy, defining a clear team purpose which empowers the team to deliver optimal outcomes and prioritise work in a way that delivers maximum benefit.
To oversee the definintion and implementation of AZP underwriting policy. This includes the establishment and maintenance of a risk control framework to ensure that the business operates within underwriting appetite and Group Standards and adheres to regulatory product governance requirements.
To oversee development of Retail’s existing products by ensuring that the team has processes in place to systematically review features, market developments and customer feedback to sustain competitiveness and value to customers – and to lead discussions on the prioritisation of required changes/opportunities.
To oversee input into new proposition development, providing guidance on technical and regulatory issues, in support of Retail’s growth, diversification and ESG strategy.
To oversee enhancement of income, profitability and quotability by ensuring that the team has data and processes in place to consistently challenge the status quo, and identify opportunities to improve.
To appropriately manage the underwriting department’s budget and expenses to ensure delivery against plan.
To sponsor, lead or partipate in strategic projects (including support of partner tenders and AZP cellular businesses) and technical insight development to support the goals of AZ Global, AZH, AZP and/or Retail, collaborating with cross-functional colleagues and Exec stakeholders to overcome barriers and ensure successful delivery.
To oversee an ongoing annual programme of product fair value assessments, ensuring conclusions and recommendations shared with appropriate governance forums, eg MPUC and CCC.
To oversee accumulation management and research into specialist technical subjects, making recommendations for the Exec as appropriate to ensure exposure is within appetite.
To act as final arbitrator for complex and sensitive complaints and referrals from the business, including ExCo and Press Office, and recommending an approach for approval by the Managing Director when appropriate.
To oversee analysis and interpretation of GI related legislation bulletins ensuring that the team identifies threats and opportunities, seeks to influence external bodies as appropriate, and briefs the Retail Leadership team and ExCo.
To oversee LVGI or AZP responses to FCA requests, feeding into AZ Compliance, keeping Exec stakeholders in the loop, and coordinating action when necessary.
To take a data and insight driven ‘helicopter’ view of isuses, making decisions and providing a steer that balances commercial and customer outcomes, and takes account of the bigger picture, eg the market, regulatory or wider LVGIG/AZ perspective.
To be a member of the Retail Leadership team responsible for managing the Retail business and for supporting the Managing Director to achieve the goals of the business.
To actively participate in governance forums, such as Risk and Conduct Committee, Customer Conduct Committee and Underwriting and Pricing Committee.
To comply with the FCA Conduct Risk principles, including Consumer Duty, and with GDPR requirements when undertaking the above activities.
