Flow insurance is a leading insurance business offering car and home insurance products LV= General Insurance have an exciting opportunity to join our Flow team as a Principal Pricing Analyst.

Our Pricing Department is currently undertaking a number of major projects that will help us shape the insurance landscape of the future. As a Principal Pricing Analyst in the Flow team you will play a crucial role in driving innovation that adds value across the company.

You will use machine learning techniques and insurance market knowledge to develop and implement price optimisation across our Flow insurance product range. You’ll plan and lead projects that bring together technical experts, and communicate the results to stakeholders across the business. As a trusted subject matter expert in your chosen field, you will act as a consultant to teams across Pricing, and provide training and mentoring to upskill colleagues. The role will be based in our London office, with the option to work from home up to 3 days per week or other flexible working arrangements. You’ll use that expertise to advise other teams, and apply it to the full model building workflow – from data extraction to model deployment. You have excellent communication and stakeholder management skills that you’ll utilise to explain complex results to non-technical audiences, and to coordinate project teams of technical experts. You’ll also be keen to share your in-depth knowledge to inform and inspire others through training and mentoring, with the opportunity to become a line manager.

We don't expect you to know everything from day one, but you should be able to demonstrate the following:

Essential:

  • Experience in an insurance pricing role creating and using predictive models.
  • Extensive understanding of modelling techniques, including GLMs and GBMs, plus a desire to push the boundaries of the applications of machine learning to insurance pricing.
  • Proven ability in a data science programming language, preferably Python. Thorough knowledge of Willis Towers Watson’s software Radar and preferably also Emblem. Proficiency in Excel and MS Office applications.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships throughout both the Pricing Department and the wider business.
  • Experience of planning and managing projects from inception to completion within business timelines.
  • Capability to review and sign-off modelling projects produced by junior team members.
  • A passion for sharing technical knowledge in an informative and engaging way to upskill the Pricing team and build LV=‘s reputation as industry leaders in applications of machine learning.

Desirable:

  • Experience of development tools to enable teamwork and model deployment, e.g. Git for version control, a package manager such as conda, Azure DevOps and other relevant Azure services.
  • Excellent data handling skills using SAS and/or SQL.
  • Knowledge of Agile project management processes.

Details

Customers are at the heart of everything that we do, so you’ll need to live the LV= values and consider customer impacts when proposing pricing changes, appropriately documenting work for implementation and future reference. You'll need to carry out and deliver pricing analysis, interpret the output and communicate the results to a technical and non-technical audience. Providing accurate, timely and relevant internal business information, forecasts and analysis.

You’ll be working with the wider Pricing team and Data Science team to develop and implement best practices. You'll deliver project work and analysis to agreed business timescales, influence and interpret project requirements from Pricing meetings and document important decisions and challenges from the senior stakeholders. In addition to this you will build and maintain relationships with teams involved in the Pricing end-to-end delivery process and across the company.
