The role:
Located at 595 Collins Street, CBD, the Electrical Control Room Officer (DC Officer) is responsible for monitoring the day to day functions of the 1500V traction power supply system for electrified rail network, including the electrolysis mitigating equipment as well as assisting in the monitoring and operation of the AC rail network. DC Officer staff operate in accordance with the High Voltage Rules and defined by the Organisational Policies and Procedures and the Victorian Traction Industry Electrical Safety Rules
Please note: This role has a rotating shift pattern, the successful applicants must be available 24/7 for day, afternoon and night shifts.
Main duties:
- Monitor all switching procedures and the operation of in-field traction substation apparatus as required for the energising/de-energising of the DC system and isolation of specific sections within the system to provide for fault reparations and the sequencing of switching operations for the restoration of traction power supplies.
- Determine and authorise access by maintenance and construction staff to operate substation equipment and other facilities in connection with the 1500V DC traction system.
- Conduct investigations and report on the occurrence of DC faults which may reveal a variety of causes (i.e. faulty train, electrical overload caused by an excessive number of trains in the section, derailments or natural causes).
- Maintain accurate logs of DC System Switching operations, faults and abnormalities together with details of cranes operating in close proximity to assets as defined in the High Voltage Rules.
- Be responsible for the issue of Access Permits, Testing Permits, Dead Line Work Permits and Switching Certificates etc. for work to be carried out on or in the vicinity of any 1500V DC traction and Electrolysis equipment.
- Any other duties as specified by manager.
Education, skills and experience:
Mandatory:
- Conversant with High Voltage operating planning or practices
- Recognised Electrical Tradesperson, Technician, Diploma or Degree certified
- Experience in the Electrol System Control Centre or similar environments. (Power Industry or traction Industry)
- Generalist IT applications skills.
Preferred:
- First Aid Level 2.
- Substantial knowledge and extensive experience in the electrical operation and maintenance of the metropolitan rail services high voltage traction, signalling and industrial electrical equipment.
- Knowledge and understanding of rail practices and operational procedures.
- Extensive knowledge of the Victorian Traction Industry Electrical Safety Rules (The Orange Book)
- Extensive knowledge of SCADA and its applications.
