As the successful candidate, your day-to-day duties will include:
Day to day management and mentoring of graduate engineers and technicians on project work
Provide input and advise on the structural analysis and design of buildings including substructure, superstructure, primary and secondary elements in all major materials
Undertake detailed engineering design, including concept, scheme, and detailed design
Check, review, and comment on the structural engineering design of junior members of staff
Environmental impact assessment of civil and structural engineering designs, including embodied carbon
Responsible for liaising with external stakeholders, ensuring client satisfaction and pursuing and promoting opportunities with potential and established clients
Provide a proactive and collaborative approach to clients to ensure the best solution is offered to meet their needs
Developing, maintaining, and monitoring programmes for scheduling and reporting on deliverables across specific projects
Maximising profitability of projects, monitoring against budget, reacting and anticipating potential problems and communicating in line with client expectations and change control procedures
Demonstrating technical excellence in structural engineering, providing in depth knowledge whilst proactively supporting, coaching, and developing team members
Ensure more senior staff are kept informed of important and relevant service/design decisions and the objectives of the company and the client are achieved.
For this role you will need to align with the majority (although not necessarily all) of the following criteria:
Experience of delivering structural engineering designs on buildings projects across a range of sectors within a multi-disciplinary team
Knowledge of the environmental aspects/impacts of civil and structural engineering designs, including embodied carbon
The ability to liaise with, manage and report on the inputs of colleagues providing supporting services to the projects such as civil, geotechnical and fire engineering and contamination and acoustic consultancy including teams and colleagues working remotely and overseas
Ability to successfully manage (to budget and deadline) projects portfolio ranging in size from £25,000 to over £10m and deal with potential issues that may arise
Experience of using analytical/design software such as Tekla Building Designer, Robot, Etabs, Staad, Tedds and other design spreadsheets or tools
Experience of specification preparation including the use of NBS Create or Chorus
Experience managing projects in a client facing role and coordinating with other disciplines including architects
Familiar with model authoring tools such as AutoCad, Revit, Civils 3D, CADS RC
Other desirable criteria:
Familiar with information storage, management and collaboration tools such as SharePoint, Projectwise, 4P Viewpoint, ASite, Aconex, BIM 360, Navisworks, Revizto, Dalux etc
Interest and experience of software packages and methods commonly used in digital delivery such as Revit, SketchUp, Rhinoceros 3D, Grasshopper, Python etc.
Ability to market services to develop business with new and existing clients
Ability to demonstrate a thorough understanding of statutory, technical and environmental considerations and the ability to provide technical solutions to meet those obligations
Experience in parametric and generative design would be a benefit
Experience of business development activities, including networking and involvement in fee proposals, project bids and interviews
Experience of undertaking building or infrastructure condition, defect or deterioration surveys and inspections and the preparations of reports
