As a Project Principal your day-to-day duties will include:
Line management and leadership of a team of structural engineers
Technical leadership and mentoring of the wider structural engineering team, remaining actively involved in technical delivery
Accountability for your own portfolio of projects
Client facing role on projects, including attendance of principal meetings and critical technical design meetings
Completion of technical and other project reviews
Completion of regular project control meetings and monitoring of commercials
Commercial and contractual management of projects under your direction
Control and planning of resources and contribution to regular team resource meetings
Promoting and leading on technical excellence and continuing professional development
Oversight of project managers assigned to your portfolio of projects
Mentoring of junior members of staff and supporting their development
Provide a proactive and collaborative approach to clients to ensure the best solution is offered to meet their needs
Supervising, checking and approval of project deliverables
Business development and input into business strategies and planning meetings
Preparation of project bids and fee proposals
Supporting the senior divisional management team
Preparation of structural reports, specifications and calculations as required to support your team
Management of your own client accounts and building strong relationships with our wider client base
Ensure more senior staff are kept informed of important and relevant service/design decision
The Sheffield and Leeds structures team is part of a rapidly growing 45 strong Northern Team located across Manchester, Liverpool Leeds, Newcastle, and Sheffield.
You will be an experienced chartered engineer of a relevant institution with experience managing a team and delivering buildings projects across a range of sectors with values in excess of £20m.
The Sheffield and Leeds team deliver many projects that are important to the local community, as well as across the globe on national and international prestigious schemes. We currently have projects in the health, education, transport, commercial, high-rise residential, defence, sports and water sub-sectors ranging up to £300m in value, including the Albion Square mixed-use development in Hull, The £150m West Bar Commercial Development in Sheffield and major new expansions of Calderdale Royal Hospital in Halifax and Scunthorpe and Grimsby Hospitals to name just a few.

The candidate must have extensive experience in design and management of civil and structural engineering buildings projects across a wide variety of sectors and for a range of project sizes and complexities.
What you need for the role:
Hold a relevant degree qualification (BEng BSc, MEng or MSc) in a suitable engineering subject such as Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent
Be a chartered engineer and a member of a relevant professional institution (CEng, MIStructE preferred)
Have experience line managing and mentoring a team of engineers and technicians
Have a broad depth of experience in the delivery of building structures and preferably complementary civil engineering services such as drainage, highways and geotechnics, across a range of sectors such as education, health and commercial
Be experienced leading projects in a client facing role and managing technical, commercial and contra
