The engineering science (ES) teams within the London and South East (LSE) division comprise the following:
- Building Physics
- Sustainability including Net Zero Carbon consultancy
- Fire Engineering
- Facades
The Team
We have circa 50 Engineering Science specialists located within the London & South East Division supporting across a wide variety of Clients, key accounts and sectors.
In terms of location, the Fire Engineering, Building Physics and facade teams are predominantly located in London, with Sustainability focused in Cambridge but the teams also have individuals remotely located in other MM offices around the UK.

- Appreciation of, and credibility within, the Engineering Science market and external visibility and stature within that market
- Experience of working with Engineering Science specialists and a working knowledge of all the relevant disciplines.
- Extensive people management and leadership skills and track record, team oriented with the ability to work closely with peers, ability to delegate, motivate and empower individuals and teams
- Experience in a senior management role
- An inspirational leader with a positive approach when delivering challenges and change
- Strong people leadership with proven ability to grow teams through effective leadership, recruitment and retention

- Experience of successfully leading/managing teams to grow market share and meet utilisation targets and budgets

Engineering Science Resource Group Lead (RGL)
Working with the Divisional General Manager (DGM) and Resource Lead, provide resource management across the ES Resource Group. As RGL you will be responsible for providing bid and project teams; managing staff utilisation; managing staff skills and capability development; manage recruitment; proposing to the DGM all staff reward and recognitions; manage staff retention and deal with staff performance issues.
Ensure technical quality standards are maintained and provide commercial leadership across all the live projects within the resource group.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure H & S practices are followed
- Develop a high performing team to meet all relevant WIN and DO requirements
- Provide link between senior management and the specialist teams and represent the specialist teams as one voice to senior management
- Ensure that appropriate pastoral care and wellbeing support is in place
- Ensure a strong support infrastructure is in place to enable optimum utilisation
- Ensure career development plans are in place through Connected Conversations
- Ensure timely recruitment of resource and enable an environment that optimises retention and performance
- Ensure talent mapping of the team is completed annually with succession plans in place for critical roles
- Enable a highly engaged team
- Identify future capability needs, and meet them through staff development and recruitment in line with Group/Unit/Divisional business strategies
Whilst the RGL aspect is a primarily internally facing role, the promotion and BD element is more outward facing towards our key clients and sectors and encompasses promotion of the ES Offer across Mott MacDonald Group.
The ES teams receive a significant proportion of their work through cross selling on multidiscipline projects but they also have their own clients, and their success is founded on technical excellence.
- Represent ES teams at key internal forums plus other forms of communication to promote the specialist skills offer
- Coordinating bidding process, in conjunction with WIN team, be responsible for overseeing the development of a repository for specialist bidding collateral
- Secure central business development budget for ES teams
- Proven client facing for multidiscipline teams, able to represent all specialisms at client presentations
- Work with WIN team to continually develop state of the art marketing collateral
- Ultimately, to develop and see through an ambitious external and internal marketing and business development strategy
