We are currently looking to add to our engineering team and recruit an Assistant Engineer in our Reading office.
Job description
As an Assistant Engineer in our Heavy Civils/Tunnel design team, you will be working in a world leading engineering discipline, supporting project delivery and client relationships. You will be provided with support from the team who will mentor and guide you through working towards your professional qualification and additional training. You'll be involved in undertaking feasibility studies and outline design through to detail design associated with major civil infrastructure including underground and tunnels.
You will also have opportunities to be involved in analytical and numerical modelling (such as finite element modelling involving Strand 7 and PLAXIS), preparing design documents and technical reports as well as Health & Safety risk assessments. In addition, you will have opportunity to manage and respond to commercial and contractual issues on various projects within the team.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Involvement in methods, tools and techniques for the design and assessment of civil assets including tunnel and underground designs
* Providing input in digital delivery and information management of various projects from conception through to completion
* Understanding technical engineering codes and practices as well as taking a 'hands on' role in technical matters
* Interfacing and coordinating with professionals on multidisciplinary projects
Candidate specification
As an experienced Engineer within the civil, structural or geotechnical engineering industry you have practical experience working within the heavy civils sector and are able to demonstrate your design skills within major infrastructure. Through your attention to detail and ability to make informed judgements, you are able to apply your technical knowledge in analysing problems and creating solutions. With your strong interpersonal skills, you're able to coordinate and interface effectively within multidisciplinary teams and have the ability to work using your own initiative. Additionally, you're ambitious in developing your professional career and enjoy learning on the job with an interest in working towards your Chartership. Due to the nature of our projects you're also flexible to travel nationally or internationally when required.
You will also be able to demonstrate the following:
* MEng/MSc in a Civil Engineering discipline
* Civil and structural design experience within heavy civils, tunnels or geotechnics
* Knowledgeable in engineering planning, small-medium sized schemes and BIM
* Good technical report writing skills
Although not essential, previous experience of working within the tunnels industry will be advantageous as would structural analysis experience (Strand 7 and PLAXIS).
