The environmental demands in the power sectors, renewables, water, transport, and buildings in Ireland and beyond need environmental specialists who can think laterally.

In collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams of ecologists, planners, environmental scientists, and engineers you will be responsible at a project-level for resourcing and over-seeing the ecological inputs for a variety of multi-disciplinary projects for a range of clients.

The responsibilities will span all stages of project development, from feasibility to construction providing opportunities to influence and optimise design, mitigate by avoidance, and incorporate no net loss.

This role will suit a dynamic, proactive individual who wants to work in a growth area of our business and help support the delivery of ecological services in a fast moving, client focussed commercial environment.

What we need from you as a Principal Ecologist:
  • A degree in zoology/biology/ecology or a directly related subject
  • Full Member of Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or equivalent
  • Experience in the Ireland and/ or UK ecological consultancy market, with a strong external-facing, client-orientated approach
  • Demonstrable experience in biodiversity assessments (Environmental Reports/ EIA) and Appropriate Assessment
  • Excellent report writing including checking and approvals. If you are able to provide recent examples of reports / deliverables that you have been responsible for in your application that would be a great help.
We are also looking for you to have a strong combination of some of the following:
  • An additional higher degree
  • A Chartered Environmentalist/Ecologist
  • Thorough understanding of Irish biodiversity conservation legislation including planning processes
  • Experience of medium to larger scale project types including Energy, Transport, Water and Renewables
  • Experience in leading on ecological inputs into small/ medium/ larger-scale projects
  • Experience in field surveys including standard Irish and/ or UK survey methods for habitat survey, protected species, aquatic/ fishery, and ornithology surveys
  • Experience of managing staff and sub-consultant ecologists
  • An enthusiasm to mentor junior staff and the next generation of Ecologists
  • The desire encourage innovation and digital services
  • Ability to travel throughout Ireland (if required)
  • Attention to detail and the ability to deliver contracts on time and to budget
  • Excellent communication skills.
