  • Communicate and manage performance and significant issues, escalating to both Defence Clients and internally to the BNC DSL as appropriate.

Resource / Team Management:

  • Guide the Northern Division Defence Team by galvanising and strengthening working relationships in a matrix organisation to achieve effective and cohesive delivery
  • Collaborate with other BNC Divisional Defence Sector Leads and Divisional Resource Managers to develop and grow the capability and capacity of the team in line with our strategic objectives
  • Support technical and delivery excellence on Defence projects by closely collaborating with teams and individuals working on defence projects
  • Work with other divisional leads to ensure the right resource is deployed at the right time.

  • Win work and drive business development opportunities with responsibility for guiding the direction and focus of proposals
  • Actively engage in the prioritisation of bidding activity and working with the Divisional Development Manager and BNC DSL to agree appropriate Decision to Capture and Decision to Bid resourcing plans and budgets
  • Provide management in proposal development and oversight of proposals produced for defence within the division.

Customer Relationships:

  • Be the first point of escalation above project team for any project issues.

Planning / Growth:

  • Accountable for growing the Northern Defence portfolio in accordance with the BNC Defence Growth Plan and operational delivery of strategies to support overall growth
  • Proactively contribute to the development and maintenance of the BNC Defence Growth Plan
  • Contribute to the work of the defence leadership team within BNC.

The ideal candidate will need to be self-motivated, driven and have a strong track record of winning and delivering projects, demonstrating flexibility and a breadth of knowledge.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required to ensure success, as this role will involve stakeholder engagement both internal to Mott MacDonald and with our customers.

We would also expect the following from you:

  • Industry recognised professional qualification, such as PMI, APM, CEng, or demonstrable equivalent experience
  • Significant experience of successful delivery of buildings and/or infrastructure projects
  • A clear approach to the management of 'challenged' projects
  • Demonstrable experience of full lifecycle project delivery
  • Experience of taking government projects through a business case would be beneficial, as would experience of working for contractors in the D&B environment
  • A flexibility to work across the MOD estate within the geographical area of the Division
  • Experience managing projects to high levels of financial (value for money), technical or political scrutiny would be beneficial

Candidates do not need to have Security Clearance currently in place but must meet the eligibility criteria to have the ability to apply for and obtain this to Developed Vetting (DV) level.

If you are interested in this role, please apply with a cover letter (max 1 A4 page) detailing what you would bring to the role and how you would manage growth of the Sector.

If you are selected for interview, you will be requested to deliver a 10 minute presentation detailing your strategy for growth within the Northern Division.

If you meet 80% or more of what we're looking for, please still apply. We understand not everyone will meet all the requirements, but you might have skills we didn't know we need.

You’ve got this!
