Brief Description
There is an exciting opportunity to join us in a role that is vital to our success. We are looking for a Senior Asset Engineer to lead our East Midlands Geotechnics Maintenance team.
In this role you will be leading the inspection, maintenance and operation of our embankment and cutting assets and the day to day management of other geotechnical risks across Network Rail's East Midlands Route area. You will provide geotechnical engineering expertise to key stakeholders and customers, and contribute to the management of earthwork assets and geotechnical risks to meet relevant Network Rail obligations and strategic objectives.
About the role (External)
Role and Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Leading the examination, evaluation, assessment and risk management of geotechnical assets in the East Midlands Route, which includes the Midland Main Line from London St Pancras through Luton and Bedford, and numerous other lines within Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire.
Undertake the evaluation of geotechnical examinations, specifying necessary instrumentation & monitoring, maintenance and refurbishment work
Manage an instrumentation & monitoring portfolio and a maintenance work bank.
Monitor trends for asset condition, failures and failure precursors and maintenance work. Confirm that geotechnical risks are mitigated, and if necessary, appropriate action is specified and undertaken and that comprehensive records are maintained
Support the Route Engineer (Geotechnics) in providing the business case for all proposed work.
Implement control measures where proposed interventions are deferred or delayed.
Support the implementation of adverse weather plans when poor weather conditions are forecast. Regularly review and update adverse weather plans.
Respond to geotechnical queries and incidents anywhere on East Midlands Route, and support investigations into significant failures that affect the safety and performance of assets. Implement actions to mitigate the risk of reoccurrence.
Support the Route Engineer (Geotechnics) in providing geotechnical engineering support to senior management of Operations and Customer Services and other key customers and stakeholders.
Lead the engineering input to the geotechnical examination contracts. Investigate and resolve technical and quality issues with suppliers.
Be part of an on-call rota for out of office hours incident response.

Do you have?
Essential
Degree in a relevant subject or equivalent
Membership of relevant professional institution
Incorporated Engineer or equivalent
A detailed understanding of the maintenance of Geotechnical assets
Substantial Geotechnical engineering experience
A sound knowledge of the relevant technical, safety and performance standards
Holds relevant professional licences and technical qualifications, or capable of achieving within reasonable timescales
Holds valid UK driving licence, or eligible and willing to obtain
Desirable
Chartered Engineer or equivalent geotechnical qualification
Understanding and experience of railway infrastructure maintenance
Experience of undertaking engineering assurance activities, including competence assessment
