Brief Description
Out in all weathers, you'll play a highly practical role in keeping Britain moving. Across a wide range of manual maintenance tasks, the efficiency and safety of the railway is in your hands.
About the role (External)
The signalling maintenance teams work in small teams on planned work. Assets include signals that control when trains can run, level crossings, and points systems, some which exist from the Victorian era through to modern equipment linked to digital technology. You'll have the opportunity to develop a huge range of skills to be able to work on all the equipment to be able to respond to the incidents and emergencies when things go wrong.

The railway working environment can be dangerous if the rules and procedures laid out by Network Rail in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act are not followed. Network Rail has a duty of care to ensure our employees are always safe, which is why you will be provided with relevant PPE. Working on the railway is physically demanding because it is a manual labour job outdoors in all weathers on unstable/uneven ground. The safest time to access the railway to complete work is when trains are not running, which is predominantly nights, weekends, and British national holidays, which means shift working does not follow a standard pattern/routine.
If you've got what it takes, we'll provide all the training, protective clothing and support you need to succeed.
