Would you like to kick start your career in a supportive, collaborative and innovative company?

Do you enjoy working as part of an enthusiastic, passionate, and collaborative team?

Join our Legal team

This an exciting opportunity to join the in-house legal team at Softcat. We are a small, friendly and supportive team based in Softcat's Manchester office but we work closely with colleagues across all our offices and across different areas of the business. We cover a range of commercial work across our public and private sector customer base and the corresponding supplier and distribution network.

Success. The Softcat Way.

Softcat is a billion-pound technology company that feels like one family. We're big on culture, big on teamwork and big on rewards. Through collaboration and understanding, we help customers to use technology to succeed, by putting our employees first. Welcome to a business where personal achievement and team success go hand-in-hand

Be part of our Legal team

The continuing success and expansion of the business means the Legal team are becoming increasingly busy. We are looking for a commercial solicitor who can provide pragmatic, commercial and jargon-free legal advice to colleagues at all levels of the business.

You will need to have a strong foundation in commercial law and practical experience of providing advice on, and the negotiation of, customer and supplier contracts (including data processing provisions). Experience working in the IT industry would be helpful but applications from candidates with solid commercial experience in other sectors are also welcome.

In-house work experience is not essential but you will need to be comfortable with working within a small in-house team without all of the resources of a private practice lawyer and able to demonstrate a good understanding of the challenges of working in-house. You will be reporting into our Senior Legal Counsel with additional support and training from our General Counsel and other members of the team but will need to be able to work with a degree of autonomy. You will also need to be able to work flexibly and effectively to manage a varied workload and respond to changing priorities.

As Commercial Solicitor, you'll be responsible for:

  • Reviewing and negotiating customer contracts based on amendments to our standard terms or customer terms and conditions
  • Reviewing and negotiating supplier and distributor contracts
  • Creating bespoke contracts where required e.g. referral agreements
  • Advising on AOR and other credit arrangements
  • Delivering contract and mandatory regulatory training to account managers and the supplier/partner management team

We'd love you to have

  • Solicitor qualified in England and Wales with 3-6PQE (or equivalent)
  • Experience of working with commercial contracts, including drafting, preparation, review and amendment; conducting negotiations; and advising on the effect of legal provisions
  • Experience of advising on data protection provisions, including data processing/sharing agreements
  • Sound technical understanding of contract and tort law
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail

Work in a way that works for you

We recognise that everyone is different and that the way in which people want to work and deliver at their best is different for everyone too. In this role, we can offer the following flexible working patterns:

  • Hybrid working – 2days in the office and 3days working from home
  • Working flexible hours - flexing the times you start and finish during the day
  • Flexibility around school pick up and drop offs

Working with us

Wherever you work, we want you to experience the freedom and autonomy to realise your potential. You will feel supported by a team that celebrates individuality, encourages different perspectives, and embraces every background.
