Do you have an existing background designing enterprise-wide technical solutions for customers as a Solutions Architect, including driving presales activity?

Do you enjoy functioning as a subject-matter expert in relation to M365 focused solutions?

Join our Solutions Design Team

The Solutions Design department is made of two technical teams, each focusing on different areas of IT design. The Architecture team focuses on large complex architecture within big projects, whilst the Infrastructure team focuses on providing SME expertise within a project and dealing with foundational infrastructure work. Members of the team hail from many different technical and non-technical backgrounds; including network and security to datacentre, end-user compute and even service architecture. The team provides customers and the wider Softcat team sight of the broader picture – helping to pull all pieces of the jigsaw together and solving the puzzle of how business requirements are interpreted into technical solutions involving multiple technical verticals.

Success. The Softcat Way.

Softcat is a major UK success story in technology solutions. We're a £1 billion+ pa turnover business with offices nationwide and a sterling industry reputation. We help customers to use technology to succeed, by putting our employees first. Our success is down to our people – and the platform we give them to prove their potential.

Does your track record as a Solutions Architect show how you've made notable business difference by designing solutions related to the M365 stack?

As a Microsoft 365 Architect, you will work to translate a client's business requirements into innovative, thoughtful and well-designed solutions either on premise or via a public or private cloud offering. The role requires demonstrating the skills of a subject matter expert, which means constantly striving to be at the top of your game in the latest Microsoft technologies and methodologies. Although the Microsoft platform should be your primary skillset, being able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding across the whole gamut of Solution Design (compute, storage, networking, backup, DR/BC, software, cloud, virtualisation, management and infrastructure) is a core part of the role.

You'll also be responsible for:

  • Understanding, scoping and documenting customers' business and technical requirements, as well as producing high-quality documentation
  • Underwriting and acting as technical design authority for solution designs and proposals
  • Working with members of Solutions Design, professional services consultants, and architects to develop cross-discipline customer-focused solutions
  • Demonstrating the skills/abilities of an SME in the Microsoft platform (O365, Windows 10/11 and Active Directory)
  • Maintaining your knowledge and understanding of the latest technology developments; knowledge sharing across the wider team
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with internal customers, external customers, and partners

We'd love you to have

  • A proven background in presales, and solutions design from your previous Subject Matter Expert role
  • Demonstrable passion for making technology work for business, with strong commercial acumen within relevant technical domains
  • Ability to understand and ratify technical designs at high level
  • Excellent communications skills, particularly with customers; presenting complex information clearly, persuasively, and elegantly through presentations/whiteboarding
  • A desire to share your knowledge and experience with those around you, particularly less experienced members
  • Expert level in Microsoft 365/MCP necessary, and accreditations/certifications (SC-900, MS-500, MS-100, SC-400) will be extremely advantageous
