The roles

SSEN Transmission has exciting opportunities for Assistant Engineers, Engineers and Senior Engineers to join our growing engineering teams.

Whether you're at the beginning of your engineering journey or already an experienced engineer looking for your next challenge, you'll have the opportunity to help deliver the infrastructure that will enable the UK's transition to net zero.

As SSEN Transmission invests billions to upgrade the network and connect renewable generation across the UK, you'll work on some of the country's largest and most ambitious transmission and substation projects, helping to deliver a cleaner, more secure energy future.

Working across a diverse portfolio of transmission and substation projects operating at voltages up to 400kV, you'll contribute to the development and delivery of innovative engineering solutions that will power communities for generations to come.

You will

  • Support the development, design and delivery of high-voltage transmission and substation projects, from feasibility through to construction and commissioning.
  • Produce and review engineering deliverables, technical specifications and scope documentation to support the successful delivery of projects.
  • Apply safety by design principles to ensure engineering, construction and operational risks are effectively identified and managed.
  • Work collaboratively with project teams, contractors, consultants and operational stakeholders to deliver safe, high-quality engineering solutions.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, knowledge sharing and technical excellence across the engineering community.

You have

  • A degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, or significant relevant industry experience.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach, with a willingness to learn, develop and contribute to the success of the wider team.
  • Experience within electricity transmission, distribution, generation, utilities or other relevant infrastructure sectors would be advantageous for Senior Engineer opportunities.
  • Knowledge of high-voltage systems, substations, primary plant, protection and control, cable systems or associated engineering disciplines would be advantageous for Senior Engineer opportunities.

We welcome applications from candidates both within and outside the electricity transmission industry. If you have transferable skills and experience from related sectors such as utilities, construction, infrastructure, energy, engineering or Industrial project delivery, we'd love to hear from you.

About SSE

SSE’s purpose is to be restless every day until we make electricity clean, affordable and available for all.

We do this by developing, building, operating and investing in electricity infrastructure and businesses needed in the energy transition. This includes electricity transmission and distribution networks, onshore and offshore wind farms, hydro-electric power and flexible thermal generation. We also provide products and services for businesses and other customers.

Our investment plan will see SSE invest £33bn in critical electricity infrastructure to 2030.

SSEN Transmission own and operate the electricity transmission network across the north of Scotland. We transport electricity from where it is generated to where it is needed, ensuring a safe and reliable electricity supply for the communities we serve. But that's not all – we're upgrading the grid to deliver cleaner, homegrown power for the future and building the infrastructure needed for a cleaner electricity system to create secure power for generations to come.
