Base Location: Tarbert Power Station, County Kerry

Salary: €41,600 -€62,400 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time |

The role

As an Electrical Maintenance Technician, you’ll help keep Tarbert Power Station’s electrical plant and equipment safe, reliable and operating effectively.

You’ll be a key member of the engineering team, carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, supporting improvement projects and helping deliver maintenance and outage work across the site.

You will

  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on electrical plant and equipment, working with maintenance and planning colleagues to address faults and improve reliability.
  • Support electrical and instrumentation projects from initial scope and technical specification through to procurement, installation and commissioning.
  • Plan, coordinate and oversee contractors, ensuring work is delivered safely and meets the required technical and commercial standards.
  • Control isolations, permits and safe access to equipment, taking responsibility for safe systems of work when appointed as an Authorised Person.
  • Maintain accurate technical records, drawings and job plans, using maintenance information to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.

You have

  • A National Craft Certificate in Electrical Engineering at NFQ Level 6, or an equivalent electrical qualification.
  • Practical experience maintaining electrical equipment within an operational industrial, generation or similarly safety-critical environment.
  • Experience controlling electrical isolations, issuing or managing permits and ensuring safe access to plant and equipment.
  • A strong commitment to safety, with the confidence to assess risk, challenge unsafe practice and make sound technical decisions.
  • Clear communication and organisational skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, contractors and technical specialists.

Experience of high-voltage installations, switching operations, control systems, field instrumentation, motor control centres, variable speed drives, battery systems or equipment in hazardous environments would be beneficial, but you do not need to have experience in every area to apply

About SSE

SSE’s purpose is to be restless every day until we make electricity clean, affordable and available for all.

We do this by developing, building, operating and investing in electricity infrastructure and businesses needed in the energy transition. This includes electricity transmission and distribution networks, onshore and offshore wind farms, hydro-electric power and flexible thermal generation. We also provide products and services for businesses and other customers.

Our investment plan will see SSE invest £33bn in critical electricity infrastructure to 2030.

SSE Thermal help keep electricity available for millions of people while pioneering low-carbon technologies. From ground-breaking carbon capture and storage projects to plans for what might be the world's first hydrogen-fired power station, we're transforming how flexible power supports a cleaner electricity system.
