The Power Modelling team of Energy Economics prepares and delivers long-term scenario-based forecasts of power prices and asset revenues in the Great Britain and island of Ireland (ISEM) power markets. These forecasts are endorsed by SSE’s Group Executive Committee for use to support the appraisal of opportunities and the valuation of investments in the UK & Ireland.
This role will support the ISEM Power Market Manager in the delivery of the long-term forecast, out to 2050 & beyond, of ISEM (Integrated Single Electricity Market), by assisting with the market intelligence gathering, long-term assumption building, and analytical modelling. The role will also involve liaising with other SSE colleagues across a wide discipline of areas, liaising with external consultants, and assisting with the economical appraisal of investment opportunities in the Republic of Ireland & Northern Ireland.
Your responsibilities include:
- Research and analysis to support the production of our long-term price and revenue forecasts for ISEM.
- Provision of analytical support to SSE’s Energy Business Units to underpin long term investment decisions, asset valuations and other strategic decision making.
- Operate and maintain long-term pricing and analytical models.
- Stakeholder engagement.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
- Broad knowledge of the ISEM (or similar) power market, or able to demonstrable the applicability of knowledge of a relevant sector with the ability to demonstrate good commercial awareness.
- Prior experience in forecasting, energy consulting, power market modelling, data analysis, research or other related experience is highly valued.
- Education to degree level in a relevant numerical or technical subject (such as economics, engineering, finance, or a physical science), or demonstration of a background in a relevant discipline through experience would be strongly beneficial.
- Proficiency in the use of standard Microsoft Office tools for data analysis, storage, and presentation, ideally with some experience using VBA, SQL, Python, Power BI, Tableau or similar, as the role will require ability to work with large datasets. Additional experience in the use of PLEXOS (or other market modelling software), Microsoft Azure, and/or Databricks would be beneficial.
- Self-motivation, a strong sense of curiosity, a keen interest in problem solving and the ability to distil complex analysis into simple key messages for a range of audiences. Our work is interesting, varied, intellectually stimulating and commercially important.
