About the Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Commercial Solicitor to join our well established Legal team where you'll be responsible for:
- Leading on the drafting, review and negotiation of commercial agreements for SSE Airtricity, including branding and sponsorship agreements, licensing and technology agreements, non-disclosure agreements and other bespoke contracts.
- Advising on the broad range of issues that arise in an energy retailer, including consumer protection, regulatory matters (in conjunction with our regulation team) in addition to acting as the first point of contact for commercial disputes.
- Instructing external legal counsel as required, to include managing relationships and maximising value for money, while minimising the overall cost to the SSE Group.
- Acting as a first point of contact for clients and delivering prompt, high quality and commercially pragmatic legal advice to SSE Airtricity. Engaging with key internal/external stakeholders within your business unit(s) and at an SSE Group level, and proactively working to maintain these relationships.
- Developing an understanding of legal, business and practical issues pertinent to their stakeholders and the work that is carried out by their team and attending relevant training to further develop knowledge, along with developing an understanding of relevant market trends.
What do I need?
To be considered for the role, we'd love you to have:
- A qualification as a solicitor in Ireland (or a foreign qualified lawyer with the ability to obtain a practising certificate in Ireland). While applicants of all levels of PQE are welcome to apply, this role would suit someone with 0-3 PQE.
- Commercial contracts experience, with strong drafting and negotiating skills. Experience of IT contracts and data protection is beneficial but not essential.
- The ability to work on own initiative or as part of a team, supporting both colleagues on the legal team and stakeholders across the business.
- Clear communication skills and sound commercial judgment and awareness. Highly organised and efficient with confidence in your approach and comfortable in challenging situations.
- Knowledge and experience of the energy sector would be advantageous, as would prior experience working in-house in a regulated and/or customer facing business.
