About the Role
Job Title: Operations Technician
Location: Medway Power Station, Isle of Grain
Salary: £39,415 - £45,136 depending on skills and experience + shift allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits such as Holiday Plus, SSE Pension Scheme, SSE Share Save and Share Incentive Plan Scheme to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

What is the Role?
We are recruiting 2 Operations Technicians to join our Operations team at Medway Power Station.
Reporting to the Shift Group Leader (SGL), you will be expected to carry out the following:
- Using a DCS and MKVIe system to operate plant and equipment such as turbines, pumps, heat recovery steam generators and electrical switchgear from 415V up to 400,000V.
- Diagnose plant related problems and perform basic first line maintenance tasks.
- Reporting any defects via our electronic defect reporting system Maximo.
- Conduct plant walk round and daily checks to ensure equipment is operating safely, reliably and efficiently.
- Undertake specific projects and work activities to develop skills and knowledge of the plant.
- Conducting all activities with the highest regard for health, safety and environment.
Your responsibilities as an operator will extend to ensuring that all safety and environmental requirements are met and remain compliant through effective operation, monitoring and proactive assessment of the plants performance and operational activities.
You will be set smart objectives and be responsible for delivering these through continuous monitoring and review. You will receive specific training modules and set performance objectives to ensure a high level of understanding and competence is attained to allow you to monitor, review, start-up and shut-down the plant in line with our operational procedures and requirements.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role we would love you to have:
- Minimum ONC level in engineering or equivalent level technical qualification.
- Previous operational experience in a power plant or major process facility.
- An understanding of thermodynamics as applied to the production of electricity generation within a power station.
- Preferably you will already hold a certificate in either IOSH or NEBOSH General Certificate.
- Excellent communication skills both verbally and written.
