What is the Role?
The Energy Contracts Originator will play a critical role in delivering EM’s growth strategy. There are no set boundaries for this new role and you will be expected to navigate and lead EMs venture into the GB and European markets to develop new business relationships and identify and deliver new profitable contract portfolio opportunities.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Establishing a targeted but extensive customer relationship database with a range of Energy companies, Asset owners and developers across GB and Europe.
- Establishing market insights and intelligence framework to competitively benchmark EM products and services offerings.
- Coordinating with EM and wider SSE stakeholders to ensure opportunities are aligned to EM and wider SSE Group operating models.
- Identify business growth opportunities and build the business case for consideration by EM Executive Committee
- Take P&L ownership of all delivered opportunities.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
- Knowledge and understanding of the GB and European Energy Markets.
- Strong ability to build and maintain excellent and productive business relationships.
- Experience and ability to originate, negotiate and deliver high value energy contracts (e.g. PPAs).
- Experience of creating, evaluating and articulating complex commercial proposals.
- Knowledge of industry players, industry structure and commercial mechanisms and drivers with an understanding of industry challenges, regulatory change and impact on commercial opportunities
- Develop strong organisational awareness, and ability to navigate internal and external barriers to get things done.

Energy Markets (EM) is the energy markets heart of the SSE Group, securing value for SSE's asset portfolios in wholesale energy markets as we move towards our vision of being a leading energy company in a net zero world. We play a critical role as the short-term energy market asset optimiser, and a long-term energy market adviser, for all SSE's Business Units (across SSE's Wind, Hydro, Low Carbon Thermal, Distributed Energy and Customer portfolios). This role for EM enables SSE to focus its investment in energy markets capabilities (including Trading, Risk Management, Energy Economics, Settlements and Advanced Analytics) in one centre of excellence, with these enhanced capabilities supporting value creation and decision making across the SSE Group.
