About the Role
Base Location: Leeds, Reading, Perth, Glasgow or Aberdeen - other locations can be considered
Salary: £33,500 - £50,300 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

SSE Thermal recognises that data is the single biggest enabler of a decarbonised, decentralised and digitised energy future. It's the tool that will bridge the gap between where we are now vs. where we need to be to achieve net zero. We plan to be a progressive energy generator that uses digital information to: enhance social and economic value, provide a leading experience across all our sites, enable the energy system to reach net zero carbon emissions, drive internal efficiencies and reduce cost to serve.
Ensuring our data is effectively and properly governed is key to realising the goals of our business. As Metadata analyst, you will play a key governance role and will support the business to improve our data maturity and ensure our data is able to realise our business objectives.
Key responsibilities:
- Work with the business to successfully roll out our data governance and catalogue tooling and provide day-to day functional support.
- Take the lead in updating and maintaining metadata management frameworks and processes, including associated user guides, presentations and other supporting materials.
- Support the Head of DI&A in evangelising a healthy data culture, particularly with regard to business and digital transformation programmes where metadata best practice is fundamental to success.
- Lead regular engagements with data stewards to understand their current and emerging needs with regard to Data Catalogue, including organising and chairing associated Communities of Practice.
- Produce and maintain relevant training material and guides to assist in the education and training of data owners, stewards and users across the business, with a focus on metadata and glossary management and the utilisation of data governance and catalogue tooling.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
- A strong understanding of the significance of data and its value as a business asset.
- An understanding of all general and industry specific legislation, regulation and best practice pertaining to data including GDPR, Competition Law, & REMIT.
- An understanding of data lineage, table structures in database schemas. As well as knowledge of different data models and how they can be applied into Axon and EDC.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills; takes the initiative in creating and maintaining strong business relationships across diverse groups.
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills; able to present effectively at all levels of the organisation.
