About the Role
Base Location: Leeds or Keadby Power Station (Lincolnshire)
Salary: £45,400 - £68,200 + car / car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

SSE Thermal are recruiting for a Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Assurance Lead to support the implementation and coordination of the Thermal SHE assurance programme.
Working effectively with site assurance leads, Local Process Support Managers, project and development managers and other key stakeholders, you will plan and conduct a variety of SHE Assurance activities including Management System auditing, Project SHE reviews, deep dive reviews, and SMS programme assurance, as agreed in the annual Thermal assurance plan in addition to tracking of associated actions and remediation plans.
The SHE Assurance lead will be required to be kept up to date with best practice approaches across the industry, assisting in the digitisation of our process and ensuring full value is realised from our assurance activities leading to strategic improvement across the business.
Key responsibilities:
- Play a pivotal role in the ongoing development of annual SHE Assurance audit requirements.
- Undertake SHE Assurance activities on a regular basis across Thermal generation locations, Large Capital Projects, and Gas Storage facilities, including audits, deep dives, Project SHE reviews.
- Support the SHE Assurance and SSoW Manager with the analysis of internal audits and inspections, identifying any trends, areas of potential weakness and ensuring findings are fed into L2 SHE Assurance audit plans.
- Provide detailed analysis and reporting, ensuring that audit reporting standards are maintained to a consistently high and professional standard, and that analysis is undertaken across the completed audits, in addition to other internal influences such as Hazard and Incident data (SEARs) thus assisting to inform and lead strategic SHE decision making.
- Assist in the revision of the thermal audit protocols ensuring they are fit for purpose. Where necessary, documentation and forms shall be updated, ensuring stakeholder engagement throughout.
- As directed by the Head of SHE Thermal, provide support to incident investigation and determine the systematic learnings from the incidents.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
- Safety, Health and Environment qualification (e.g., NEBOSH Certificate) or related discipline with continuing professional development or appropriate proven knowledge and experience.
- Registered member of IOSH or equivalent professional body (or desire to work towards).
- Experience of working in a high hazard industry, i.e., Construction, Offshore, Petrochemical or Pharmaceutical industry, etc.
- Experience working with SHE Management System policies and strategies within an asset intensive engineering environment with good knowledge and understanding of SHE legislative frameworks and associated management systems.
- Qualified and experienced Lead Auditor with significant SHE Audit experience.
- Experienced in incident management, investigation, reporting and using techniques for SHE Risk management tools e.g., Process Hazard Reviews, HAZIDs.
- Ability to use a wide range of techniques to effect change at all levels of the organisation and communicate effectively with people at all levels.
