SSE Distributed Energy’s vision is to invest, construct, own, operate, maintain and optimize local energy infrastructure in the UK and Ireland. SSE DE digital services is supporting this vision and is creating an in-house technology team to be independent and self sufficient in delivering these objectives.
Working within our Digital Services team as a Developer (Node.JS Backend) you will be tasked with Developing and maintaining solutions, participating in overall application lifecycle to support the business, as identified by the IT Business Partner, Project Managers and Business Analysts. Primarily using node.js with some Python.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Design, Develop and deploy code and new back-end services into AWS according to industry standards and specifications. Design and Develop AWS quicksight reports, which can be consumed directly or through a UI (via API functions). Add marketplace services as a solution, e.g. QLDB solution. Develop and conduct unit tests
- Diagnose and resolve problems with applications systems in the production environment, Assisting team members in the fixing of faults as appropriate (debugging)
- Undertake personal responsibility for information security by ensuring that rules and practices are identified (non-functional requirements). Keep up to date on latest trends and libraries.
- Ensure the code base is always up to date / supported and patched.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
- Experienced in developing and maintaining solutions on AWS (Postgress SQL / API / RDS / Lamda using node.js , express.js, Python and java) and knowledge of Microsoft technologies – e.g. C# / SQL which support AWS development. Focussed on Backend, but knowledgeable in full stack.
- Understanding of the full software development life cycle and ability to apply it to simple projects. Excellent technical computing, analysis, design and development skills to a proven professional level
- A systematic, disciplined and analytical approach to problem solving. Able to take ownership of problems and requests as well as the ability to work in a pressurised environment
- Experience from a similar support or development role in supporting business critical/complex systems in a large organisation and demonstrates an all-encompassing breadth and depth of knowledge and experience. Experience is adopting the organisations policies and procedures and enhancing them to meet the business needs.
