Salary: £66,100 - £82,600+ car/allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | | Flexible First options available

The role

As part of our Net Zero journey, the Onshore AC Project Engineering team is looking for an Engineering Manager to help shape our new Customer Connections team. You will lead a multidisciplined team to deliver a high volume of connection projects at pace, applying standardised engineering practices to support fast, customer‑driven delivery across our high‑voltage transmission network.

You will

- Ensure the right mix of in‑house engineers and external consultants are in place to deliver a diverse portfolio of Customer Connection projects, proactively shaping resourcing to maximise efficiency and throughput.

- Lead, develop and inspire a team of early‑career engineers, supported by a pool of Senior Engineers—championing their professional growth, embedding high performance, and ensuring they have the guidance and structure needed to deliver projects efficiently and consistently

- Provide technical leadership focused on the rapid and consistent delivery of multiple Customer Connection projects, prioritising standardisation and efficient engineering practices that reduce rework, streamline resource use, and deliver value for money at scale.

- Work closely with delivery partners and the wider supply chain to ensure assets are delivered quickly and consistently, meeting Operational needs while driving programme efficiencies and embedding a standardised, streamlined handover process.

-Embed a strong culture of safety‑by‑design across the project portfolio, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and leading the effective delivery of CDM Principal Designer and Designer responsibilities.

You have

- A qualification in a relevant engineering discipline, preferably a Chartered Engineer, with extensive experience in a similar environment.

- Relevant technical and commercial knowledge of the Electrical Transmission sector or other relevant industries is preferable.

- Strong experience in leading and managing high performing engineering teams

- A keen focus on design standardisation and driving continuous improvements in business processes, procedures and systems with strong acumen in risk management and mitigation

- The ability to relay complex and technical messages in an easy-to-understand manner with an ability to negotiate and influence to best serve the whole project portfolio.

About SSE

SSE’s purpose is to provide energy needed today while building a better world of energy for tomorrow. We transport energy from where it is generated to where it is needed, ensuring a safe and reliable electricity supply for the communities we serve. But that's not all – we're upgrading the grid to deliver cleaner, homegrown energy for the future and building a network for net zero to create secure power for generations to come.
