Job Purpose

The Data Architect is responsible for defining the data architecture required to ensure Vaultex’s data and BI & Analytics platforms are scalable, resilient and support the Business Requirements and Technology Architectures. They will work closely with Solution and Infrastructure Architects to create Solution Designs, as well as supporting delivery teams as the platforms are built and delivered into service. Other responsibilities include contributing to and supporting the Enterprise Architecture Framework, strategic technology selection, data analysis, definition and modelling, as well as providing and supporting appropriate levels of data governance to ensure the long term optimisation of our data assets.

At Vaultex, our technology stack is evolving fast as we migrate to a hybrid Azure architecture. Example technologies:

  • DB – MS SQL, Azure SQL
  • BI – Power BI, QlikView, Microstrategy, Tableau
  • Data Integration – Azure Data Factory, MS SSIS, Informatica
  • MDM – MS Master Data Services, Profisee, Informatica
  • API – Rest based
  • Infra – Hybrid setup i.e. On premise and cloud (AWS, Azure)

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining the Architecture Framework (strategy, roadmaps, standards, governance…)
  • Supporting the Change Portfolio (business cases, budgets, priorities…)
  • Supporting project / delivery teams (architecture, data quality, data governance, design governance and assurance)
  • Research, innovation and personal development

Experience

  • Experienced Data Architect operating in complex organisations, ideally financial services.
  • Experience maintaining the relevant part of an Enterprise Architecture Framework, managing Data and BI & Analytics roadmaps and supporting change portfolios, and providing architecture leadership for data related aspects of complex transformation programmes.
  • Experienced data modeller of business level definition through to physical definition and implementation for both transactional systems and BI & Analytics platforms.
  • Experience assuring regulatory compliance through standards, patterns,
  • Experience across a wide variety of solutions and technologies, spanning in-house bespoke development, third party, COTS packages and integration.
  • Appreciation of architecture frameworks and notation; e.g. TOGAF and Archimate

Technical (no hands on required, but must be capable to discuss at a relatively detailed level)

  • A good understanding of modern database technologies
  • A good understanding of modern BI and Analytics technologies
  • A good understanding of data integration technologies
  • A good understanding of Master Data Management technologies
  • Thorough understanding of modern BI and Analytic platform design and security.
  • A good appreciation of modern API design and security
  • A good appreciation of high level infrastructure/hosting needs to support solutions

Cultural

  • Ability to provide the necessary governance and controls for a financial services organisation, but in a pragmatic manner to facilitate effective delivery
  • Ability to support the development of a DevSecOps and DataOps culture

Personal

  • Someone who enjoys, and is interested in technology
  • Keen to support the development of others
  • Collaborative, open and able to communicate effectively
  • Self-motivated with a can-do attitude and takes pride in work
