Job Description

Abcam is experiencing exciting new growth and expanding product development of our cell lines portfolio. With this product line we hope to help with a major academic and industry-wide problem: generation and validation of CRISPR-modified cell lines remains time and effort intensive. Joining the Cell Line Engineering team at Abcam’s Waltham office will allow you to help build the tools/workflows to provide these critical research reagents to customers at a global scale and backed by Abcam’s industry-leading high standards for product validation.

We are seeking a Senior Research Associate to join our Waltham, MA team to provide cell culture support for both the high throughput workflow for KO cell line generation and the preparation and replenishment of these KO cell banks for internal and external customers. This is predominately a benchwork lab-based role and your daily activities will contribute directly to Abcam’s goals and values.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Support cell editing with single cell seeding and clone expansion
  • Grow and maintain clean mammalian cell cultures of adherent and suspension cell lines to generate final cell line stock
  • Perform quality control mycoplasma testing of final cell line stock
  • Work independently, within a team environment, to deliver products and record data within appropriate deadlines
  • Support overall Cell Lines Team in various projects, as required
  • Help establish and maintain high quality standards during experimental processes and record keeping. Abide by laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and keep accurate Batch Manufacturing Records (BMRs)
  • Help maintain a safe and efficient working environment in the laboratory, ensure the safety of colleagues & visitors and comply with Health and Safety (H&S) policies

Qualifications

You have a Bachelor or Master Degree in Life Science with 2+ or 0+ years of relevant industry experience respectively. You have practical experience with mammalian cell cultures or other aseptic techniques. Your industry experience is in an ISO9001 setting.

You have experience using automation tools such as cell sorters for single cell cloning, high content imagers, robotic arms, or scheduling software to facilitate your workflow or knowledge of CRISPR gene editing systems would also be advantageous.

You have excellent attention to detail, good organizational and communication skills with the ability to prioritize and work across several projects and to deadlines as part of a team.
