About the role
The Research & Innovation team of Abcam is seeking a Senior Research Associate to assist in the development of a high efficiency and fit-for-purpose monoclonal antibody pipeline in our Waltham, Massachusetts facility. In close collaboration with other members of the Research & Innovation team, the ideal candidate will play an integral role in the development and validation of novel immunization strategies, cloning protocols, and antibody screening assays. Candidates will possess the ability to independently design and troubleshoot experiments, as well as interpret data on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate must be comfortable conducting literature reviews, effective in communicating scientific findings, and possess strong time management/organization skills. An understanding of immunology, molecular biology, and/or cellular biology fundamentals is also desired.
This role reports to the Head of Immunology.
About the Team
The Research & Innovation team in Waltham is responsible for the optimization and re-tooling of antibody production in Abcam’s discovery pipeline, as well as the exploration of novel technologies as they pertain to company goals. This team operates at the interface of knowledge and creativity, utilizing its diverse scientific background and problem-solving expertise to generate innovative solutions designed to aid Abcam in maintaining its standard of being one of the most utilized and most trusted names in science.
Primary Responsibilities
- Independently design, implement, and troubleshoot experiments related to recombinant antibody production pipeline. Use experimental data to draft SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
- Experience with screening assay technology, including but not limited to multicolor flow cytometry, ELISA, and/or HTRF. Experience with automation is a significant advantage.
- Understanding and demonstrated practice in molecular cloning, including but not limited to PCR amplification, restriction digestion cloning, Gibson assembly, and Golden Gate cloning.
- Experience with relevant and current bacterial and mammalian cell culture techniques. Ability to work with both immortalized lines & primary cells. Aseptic technique & experience in a BSL-II environment.
- Capacity to conduct comprehensive literature reviews and share findings in a clear manner.
- Work collaboratively in a rapidly evolving environment within regional and across global teams.
- Excellent data tracking and record keeping required, including appropriate population of laboratory notebooks and data management systems.
- Support troubleshooting of technical issues, work to resolve any issues to minimize impact on success of projects. Understanding of delivery impact on the organization and strong time management skills, ability to prioritize projects and actions that add value to the company.
- Work in accordance with current health and safety procedures, abide by laboratory SOPs and work within Abcam H&S, Ethical, and Quality standards.
Qualifications
You have a bachelor, master or equivalent experience in biology, immunology, or closely related discipline with 2+ years relevant experience in an industry laboratory setting.
