Job Description
Abcam is a leading life science company experiencing exciting new growth and expanding product development within our cell lines portfolio. We are on a mission to address a major academic and industry-wide challenge: the time and effort-intensive nature of generating and validating CRISPR-modified cell lines. Join our Cell Engineering team at Abcam's Waltham office, where you'll play a vital role in providing critical research reagents to customers on a global scale, backed by Abcam's industry-leading high standards for product validation.
Position Overview:
We are looking for a Scientist/Senior Scientist (based on experience) to join our Waltham, MA team and harness our high-throughput platforms to create CRISPR-edited cell lines. In this role, you will work with cutting-edge CRISPR-Cas9/genome editing technologies, liquid handlers/automation, robotics, scheduling software, high-throughput microscopy, high-throughput next-generation sequencing (NGS), and more. Your focus will be on generating and validating various edited cell lines, including mammalian cancer cell lines, primary cells, and iPSC cells of diverse tissue origins, including immune and neurological cells. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to push the boundaries of laboratory automation and perform complex molecular biology techniques at an industry scale, all within Abcam's brand-new team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize high-throughput platforms and automation to generate CRISPR-edited cell lines.
- Lead and manage a team of 2 junior scientists.
- Apply cell biology, molecular biology, and NGS sequencing analysis/bioinformatics techniques.
- Develop high-throughput/automation pipeline/workflow.
- Contribute to global product development and expansion efforts.
- Gain expertise in cell line engineering across a broad array of cellular models and therapeutic modalities (immuno-oncology, cancer, neuroscience, etc).
- Collaborate within a matrixed work environment as part of a multidisciplinary cell line engineering team.
Qualifications
To excel in this role, you should possess a Ph.D. or M.S. in biology, genetics, engineering, or a related field, complemented by 0+ years of industry experience for Ph.D. holders or 2+ years for M.S. graduates. Your expertise lies in molecular biology techniques, encompassing DNA extraction, PCR, amplicon barcoding, library preparation, library quality control, NGS sequencing, and NGS data analysis.
Your skill set extends to the realm of laboratory automation, where you have hands-on experience with tools like cell sorters for single cell cloning, high content imagers, robotic arms, or scheduling software, all of which enhance the efficiency of your workflow. With a strong experimental background, you demonstrate a knack for automating experimental and data workflows, reflecting your keen interest in process and workflow optimization.
In addition to your technical prowess, your success in this role hinges on your ability to collaborate as a team player. You possess exceptional communication skills and the capacity to engage effectively across various disciplines and cultural contexts. Your holistic approach to problem-solving and adaptability will be instrumental in contributing to our dynamic work environment.
