Abcam is a leading life sciences company at the forefront of cellular research and antibody development. We are excited to announce the expansion of our Cell Lines Development Unit in Waltham, MA. This new initiative aims to create a robust pipeline of physiologically relevant cellular models across diverse research areas such as neurology, immunology, oncology, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, and epigenetics. Our dynamic team of over 20 scientists specializes in cell biology, cell editing, and cell line production.
Position Overview: Senior Research Associate - Cell Lines Expansion
As a Senior Research Associate on our Cell Lines Expansion team, you will play a crucial role in the development and maintenance of high-quality, genetically modified cell lines. This lab-based position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research and work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities:
- Cultivate and maintain mammalian cell cultures, both adherent and suspension, at scale.
- Assist in optimizing the end-to-end process for generating cell lines at scale, incorporating basic cell culture techniques and some automation.
- Work closely with the cell engineering team to contribute to the production of up to 300 genetically modified cell lines per month.
- Perform quality control testing, including mycoplasma testing and revival assessments, for each generated cell line.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for cultures to ensure compliance with ISO900 Certification.
- Train and utilize automation equipment for labeling and storage of finished goods.
- Provide support to the cell lines team and pipeline in various projects as required, contributing to the overall success of the initiative.
Qualifications
We are seeking a highly qualified individual to join our Cell Lines Expansion team. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a mammalian cell culture lab, demonstrating a strong proficiency in cultivating and maintaining both adherent and suspension cell lines. Additionally, candidates must have a solid understanding of ISO Certification procedures, ensuring adherence to rigorous quality standards in cell culture processes.
In addition to the essential requirements, desirable qualifications include advanced education, such as a Master's degree in a relevant field, or an equivalent 3+ years of practical experience in mammalian cell culture. The successful candidate will have practical experience working with KO (knockout) cell lines at scale, showcasing expertise in the generation and maintenance of genetically modified cell lines. An interest in gene editing technologies and automation is highly desirable, highlighting a proactive approach to incorporating innovative techniques into cell line development processes.
