Purpose
As the Legacy Assets Principal Innovation, you will be supporting the Manager Strategy and Innovation within the Planning and Technical team to bring innovative solutions to meet the closure outcome(s) and objectives of our sites. This role will require you to build strong relationships with a broad range of stakeholders within and external to Legacy Assets including Projects, Operations, and Innovation & Ventures team.
About the Role
In this role you will:
- Champion technical matters and thought leadership on innovative approach to closure outcome(s) to influence and guide Legacy Assets.
- Support the development of innovation roadmaps for each operation, including support for technologies, closure methods and alternate land uses and assessment.
- Lead the development of the ideation process, pragmatic research associated with the opportunity and business case, and review investment alternatives (including ventures) for opportunities put forward in the proposed roadmap maximizing BHP’s value.
- Coordinate pilot studies of the pipeline of technologies, closure methods and alternate land uses to ensure that they support the agreed closure outcomes and ongoing work at the sites.
- Lead team in the development of innovation initiatives to support the closure outcome(s) for the sites.
- Collaborate with BHP Innovation team to provide expert technical, advice and guidance to Legacy Assets on the changing landscape of innovation and identifying measures for continuous improvements and/or resilience.
- Identify best practice technologies, closure methods and alternate land uses by scanning industry, in collaboration with BHP Ventures, with emphasis on having a 'balance initiative’ portfolio.
- Develop and supervise test-works and future on-site trials (test-work program, ability to interpret results and convert into a design criteria, processing plant design from concept to detailed engineering, process equipment selection, transport technologies and distribution).
About You
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental / Mining / Materials / Metallurgical/ Chemical / Process / Civil Engineering or Natural Sciences. MBA and masters degree is a plus.
- Maintaining excellence in technical industry knowledge and contribution to further industry improvement in innovation by collaboration with external stakeholders and representing BHP in international forums.
- Passion combined with purpose to contribute to mining, social and environmental sustainability.
- Strong stakeholder management and cultural alignment (ability to work in a multidisciplinary, multicultural and diverse team) is a must.
- Foresight, pragmatic thinking and ability to think outside of the box to ensure the long-term business sustainability is a strong asset.
- Previous mining operations, closure, innovation, project management and resource sector experience is a strong asset.
- Experience and/or knowledge in renewable energy is desirable.
- Passionate communicator and thought leader combined with excellence in technical leadership to contribute to mining, social and environmental sustainability.
